Topic: Suggestions for gamemode descriptions
Looking at FirstStrike's localization file (strings.csv), there's a couple discrepancies you should know about. I think once corrected, it'll make the gamemodes even easier to read.
Area Conquest
This is an area conquest map. CP radius areas are much larger than standard conquest, so patrol your area and defend it.
Since the other modes have their titles capitalized, the name should match to be "Area Conquest". Also, because there's a lot of newcomers who haven't read the manual, I'm not entirely comfortable with using the veteran abbreviation "CP"; it should be outright "Control Point".
Conquest: Head-on
This is a Conquest: Head-on map. Your team will win if you cause your opponent's tickets to reach zero. You can increase the rate at which they lose tickets by holding at least half of the control points on this map.
Conquest: Assault
This is a Conquest: Assault map. The force that causes the opponent's tickets to reach zero wins. The defending force can reduce the attacking force's tickets gradually by holding all of the control points on the map. The attacking force can gradually reduce the defending force's tickets by holding all of the control points on the map.
I understand you didn't want to match Conquest: Head-on too closely, but those last two sentences are on the verge of redundant, and confusing. Something like "You can increase the rate at which the enemy loses tickets by holding all of the control points on this map." is simpler and clearer.
Conquest: Double Assault
This is a Conquest: Double assault map. You reduce opponent's tickets by holding more than half of the control points on the map. You win by capturing all control points or by reducing the opponent's tickets to zero.
Should follow the capitalization rule of the others, "Conquest: Double Assault" .
Escort
This is an Escort map. The Rebel team will win if they manage to jump over 50% of their Rebel Transports to safety via the hyperspace jump point at the top of the map. The Empire will win if they manage to destroy over 50% of the Rebel Transports. The Rebel team need to take out the heavy turbolasers located on the topsides of the ISD before attempting to take any transports past.
This is a singular collective noun, the word should be "needs". And there's only one "topside". ![]()
Fleet Engagement
This is a Fleet Engagement map. Either team will win by destroying the other teams' fleet first.
Not true. Over half a fleet is made of starfighters, who if destroyed, don't count as ticket-losses. It's the other teams' fleet of capital-ships you must destroy to win.
Push
This is a Push map. The Rebel team must hold the town CPs in order to bleed the Imperial’s tickets dry. The Empire must invade the town from the south taking the CPs in sequence to gain control of Mos Espa.
More CP usage. Perhaps just change the first one to "Control Points", the second one will be easily deciphered then.
Push Double Assault
This is a Push: Double Assault map. Both Imperial and Rebel forces can take and hold any flag. The team that drive the other off the map wins. The minimap indicate connected flags.
Collective noun thingy, "drives" is the word to use. And the minimap "indicates"; I hate language arts.
Push Rebel Assault
This is a Push: Rebel Assault map. The defending Imperials cannot retake flags captured by the Rebel forces. Rebels will win if they can push the Imperials off the map before tickets run out. The minimap indicate connected flags.
Just "indicates".
Please don't take this as a technically-correct complaint from some perfectionist. I just want this mod to have a truly polished presentation, like it deserves... and I think having right grammar is an important step in making that happen.
Hope you agree. ![]()
ShadowfaxSTF is the name you'll see, as I strike first. The FS Manual, a must-read.
