Well hi five. And again the language is Gaeilge, pronounced- gway il ga
You guys are both right...It its know as Gaelic in English and Gaeilge in Irish. Wikipedia wrote:The language is usually referred to in English as Irish, sometimes as Gaelic (IPA: /ˈgeɪlɪk/), or in general terms as Irish Gaelic when discussing other Goidelic languages. Gaelic is often used in the Irish diaspora. Calling the language Irish is a precise indication of its constitutional status as the national language of the Republic of Ireland, and by extension, the Irish people. Irish is the term generally used among linguists studying the language; it is also the term used in the Constitution of Ireland. On the other hand, use of the term Gaelic acknowledges the language's close relationship with other Goidelic languages and could be considered more endonymic.
Wikipedia wrote:In the Caighdeán Oifigiúil (the official written standard) the name of the language is Gaeilge (IPA: /ˈgeːlʲɟə/), which reflects the southern Connacht pronunciation. Before the spelling reform of 1948, this form was spelled Gaedhilge; originally this was the genitive of Gaedhealg, the form used in classical Modern Irish. Older spellings of this include Gaoidhealg in Middle Irish and Goídelc in Old Irish. The modern spelling results from the deletion of the silent dh in the middle of Gaedhilge.
