Re: Moving in capital ships?

To be honest the post is a bit confusing.  I'll try to simplify my explanation.

The smaller capital ships such as Nebulon Bs and Corvettes can pitch and rotate off the X-axis, in other words the flat plane of the map.  As a player in 2142, you are always facing upright, there is no artificial gravity nor any way to simulate it.

Besides that, the 2142 engine is not as robust as the 1942 engine as far as having players walking around inside quickly-moving objects (such as small capital ships).  As far as I can gleam from previous discussions, there are way too many calculations the engine needs to make and this would cause massive lag in a multiplayer game.  Even the titans, in a fairly large server, lag up like a bitch when they are moving with multiple players on board, and that is why they are limited to facing one direction, being slow as molasses, and are still laggy.

It's really not technically possible to have players running about inside ships like the Correllian Corvette or Carrack.  It sucks, but that's how it is.

Re: Moving in capital ships?

If theres ANYTHING that confuses me the most here, it's this: ...if the 1942 engine could do it, shouldn't the 2142 engine, since it is a later and supposedly more advanced one, do it too?

Re: Moving in capital ships?

Well you'd think so, but since bf2, they removed any sort of moving carriers/subs/destroyers like they had in 1942, and they dont code stuff they dont need

Re: Moving in capital ships?

i'd love to see some method of movement inside the ships as well.  Even as far as disabling the F1-F12 fast seat switching.

Re: Moving in capital ships?

I hate quick seat...so...boring. I like being able to get out inside a large ship and look around, rather than press a button and im there.

Now im REALLY confused. Shouldn't they have coded something like that since they are using the titans now? It moves around the map and is basically a battleship.

...where did this title come from?

Re: Moving in capital ships?

The titans move painfully slow compared to the Capitol ships in FS. And as you can see even 2142 devs made it stop moving once many people got onto it because it started causing lag.

No, no they didn't.

Once again, BF1942 had many fast-moving vehicles which you could stand on top of while in motion (landing craft, destroyers at sea, even airplane wings).  BF2142 has one, slow-moving vehicle designed for this purpose; the Titan.  Only the Titan.

Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but it's just not possible without causing an assload of lag, and a shatner player experience.

This does not rule out the possability of static, large capital ships with interiors.  You just won't be running around on a corvette while it's swooping around for another pass on a Carrack cruiser.  It's just not possible in the 2142 engine.
