Topic: First Strike needs to step up a gear

I'm a vetran of Galactic Conquest for 1942 and i have to say First Strike is yet to step up to the plate.  This mod was a long time coming. GC stopped getting players a while ago so i was anticipating more Star Wars mania with First Strike. The infantry maps dont seem to have the player base for the sheer size of them, which makes them long winded and boring. I realise this is an early release so i hope when maps such as Hoth & The Deathstar are released the game will fly.  If such maps are done justice.

Good for you, I never got GC working so I cant realy say much but as of late the player base is growing.

Chalk and Cheese - First Strike is not GC, but a Star Wars Mod in its own right, personally I think it will out do GC, not because of GC was bad, but FS is on a newer engine and will look and hopefully plays better. Considering this is the First release, I hope you are not comparing it to the final GC release? That would be unfair.

Although I never played GC (as I never had BF1942), it is sad to hear people have abandoned a well respected mod.

This could be said of most FPS games, I play regularly BF2142, Day of Defeat, Day of Defeat Source, Half-Life deathmatch, Team Fortress 2, and have experienced a lack of players at certain times on servers with a decent ping. I think as FS is developed, it will gain a greater fan base, as there were some initial difficulties (i.e. 1.40 vanilla BF2142 patch incompatibility), but these have been readdressed and new content is just around the corner which should entice new players - hopefully smile

I think I can safely say 99% of FS fans are eagerly anticipating Hoth Ground Assault & The Deathstar maps, and based on previous maps, I think this two will be absolute Corkers (Awesome for u American chaps).

Their own fault for not joining servers running 16 player maps smile .

I remember it well.  The map was hoth and was better than all the first strike maps put together.

Agreed.  I am looking forward to the new version.  This mod is the sole purpose I bought 2142.  The space maps are a vast improvement on GC's space maps but the infantry fighting still feels like 2142 which to me kinda spoils the star wars feeling which GC captured so wonderfully.  10 out of 10 for the mod and I'm sure it's just because it's the first release and subsequent releases will vastly improve on the infantry aspect.  For now I just dogfight and avoid the infantry maps cause tbh they suck atm.
