Gary Troup is a mystery writer who died in the crash of Oceanic Airlines Flight 815. On 19 November 2005, the LA Times reported that in an upcoming episode of Lost, the MSS of Troup's novel Bad Twin will be found in the wreckage—a revelation that will overlap with the novel's actual publication by Hyperion Books.

The novel is apparently unrelated to the show—that is, it is not some kind of tie-in—but is instead a real novel existing in the real world, and simply happens to have been written by a character in a television show. Hyperion's author blurb for Troup reads: "Bad Twin was delivered to Hyperion just days before Troup boarded Oceanic Flight 815, which was lost in flight from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles in September 2004. He remains missing and is presumed dead."

That's like insanely confusing lol. So is the author actually dead in real life? I would assume not, and he evidently didn't die on the Oceanic Flight 815 tongue. Or is this just some type in-show advertising? Either way, it's confusing hehe.

Oceanic Flight 815 is a fictional airplane flight from the television series Lost, outbound from Sydney, Australia with a destination of Los Angeles, North America. During the flight, the onboard radio, black box, and navigation systems malfunctioned, resulting in the fictional airplane travelling one thousand miles off course. An emergency landing in Fiji was planned, but was ultimately unobtained; the plane violently split into three parts mid-air and crashed onto, or nearby, a mysterious, uncharted Pacific Island.

The television series has not yet made the reasons behind the crash known, resulting in numerous theories and speculations as to why the crash occurred. However, the series has made it clear that the situation is far from normal. Seventy one passengers survived the crash itself, if not the immediate events that followed.

Sawyer on the other hand gets all the guns and got to say all the kick pie lines.
