Re: Idea for rather drastic Mos Espa change

realism in star wars?

Realism can be so many things.

It's realistic that you only have an infinite amount of health and then die when you take enough fire.
It's realistic that speeder bikes can't fly around freely at 2000 km/h.
It's realistic that the spawn beacon can't be used to summon dozens of wild krayt dragons.

And so on. My point is that dissing something because it's realistic just doesn't cut it. You'll need to elaborate a bit more on why you dislike this particular feature, instead of just shooting it down because it's realistic.

While we're at it would it be possible to remove the speeder bikes from Espa's 64 map? the reason is that they wont be used like bikes but they'll be used as Arial Insertion vehicles (hit a ramp fly high land at Flag X).

I have a kind of love-hate relationship with the bikes on Mos Espa 64.

Because you love doing that, but hate seeing the enemy do it back? lol

Re: Idea for rather drastic Mos Espa change

Precisely big_smile .

It's fun as Heck to jump into the Junkyard to disrupt the rebel defenders, but when playing as Rebel, I want to stand on those crates or on the balcony and have a firefight with the Imps across the open stretch of sand at the Imperials, not combat annoying speeder bikes. And I just know that one day there'll be a game where four people get onto two bikes for then to jump into the junkyard together. And then we're in real trouble.

Re: Idea for rather drastic Mos Espa change

Just brainstorming here... maybe you could have some sort of... not CTD, precisiely, but some sort of retrieval or 'insurgency weapon cache' mode? I know it's just a background story to give a reason for the fight over the city, but there's supposed to be a hidden computer or whatever with the location of the base on Hoth in the city, right?

What about making some sort of system where you have to find it in addition to capping flags (for ticket drain and spawn points?). The Empire doesn't know where the disk is, but at a certain point in the game the Rebels learn its position, and shortly thereafter the Imperials do as well, and from thereon it's a fight to protect the disk from capture, or to get it safely to the Commercial District (Rebels) or Landing Zone (Imperials). Maybe it could be in the form of a hovering crate or something (you know, the same way Han, frozen in carbonite, was 'hovered' to Slave I) that you pushed ahead of you (vehicle with the 'driver' assigned a 'crate-pushing' animation) the way you could push the AT cannons in Pirates around. The crate would be indestructible, and the map would end when it reached one side's base. A tug-of-war, as it were. It could just as easily have been a pick-up kit, but we all know what the devs think of those, so I guess that's out of the question.

Re: Idea for rather drastic Mos Espa change

When thinking about it, it'd be nice if the Imperial landing zone were off-limits to Rebels. You want an AT-ST, capture one in combat. Driving right in there and stealing one is for beginners, not to mention that no one ever scuttle their speeders when going in there, meaning that the Imperials gain a new vehicle they'd otherwise not have. And Combat Speeders can do a lot to distract Imperials as it is on that open stretch between the city and the hills, they don't need to get all the way up close and personal. Especially on the 64 player map, it's impossible to guard all three vehicle spawns, and stealing vehicles is shamelessly easy.

Re: Idea for rather drastic Mos Espa change

Me and a couple guys were racing around and in mos espa with speeder bikes last night. It was intense and it got me thinking that there ought to be a 'race' version of Espa. With tricked out bikes, and the passenger of the bike o be able to shoot behind the bike (a rule was only allwoed to fire demp shots during the race)... what do you think =/

Re: Idea for rather drastic Mos Espa change

Don't want to sound dismissive, but it is a race map already, in a sense. Both the streets and the outside of the town, with the hills and vaporators, are great for racing. All you need to do is gather your server-mates, agree on start and end point (Commercial District to Slave Quarters through city, for example), and get racing. I've done it a few times when there weren't enough people on the server to actually fight.

But yes, it'd be kinda fun to have really fast speeder bikes in a race version of the map. Maybe some obstacles like auto-firing turrets or minefields or something, too. But I don't the developers will make it, more likely it'll be a third party minimod.
