that was just an example. also there are not tons of ships for each class some have more than others yes, like there are more galaxy class then sovereign class.
and spacedocks are were they build the ships, starbases and outpost are used for refits and resuplys and there not around every one.
the empire still can build it s ships faster then the federation. it takes the federation weeks just to replicate the parts then they put it togeather over several mounths, run tons of systems checks, test flights, wepons checks, sencers, sheilds, life suport, power, internal sencers, and there fun stuff like hallowdecks, captins yatche on bigger ships, and they have to build the shuttle pods (of diffrent classes) for the ships, then they have to stock it with torpedoses (difrent types), then they have to put in programs like the EMH. they aso have to make sure the back up systems work.

in SW they just build the damn thing do a systems check, stock it, and send it on its way.

also there were not thousands, hundreds maybe.

take each universe on its proportion, SW had a setting at least 10 times as larger than the ST quadrants, and if you proportionate evrything, a equal match may be found..

and as have been pointed out here, ST is towards diplomacy, and SW, well, is wars..

the link provided for a comparison is EXTREMELY biased towards SW, and the GW figures imo as EXTREMELY exaggerated
