Re: Poll, sorta. Voices or Pick-up Kits.

There is actually more trade off than that TY.  There are other armies being planned that will be mixed race as well.  Basically, if you don't want every army to have to be 100% one gender and one race, then you can't have pickup kits.

Re: Poll, sorta. Voices or Pick-up Kits.

Ah, so it is one or the other. Well, then...

Having soldier kits for picking up would be a bad idea, as far as I'm concerned, and I'd be willing to forego armories if the two are inseperable. I hate Vanilla fights resulting in bags scattered semi-randomly across the landscape, and I'd prefer to think that use of advanced tools and weapons require some training to use. Being able to grab a Fusion Cutter and suddenly repair an AT-ST with no prior experience or training would be a bit... wierd. If I'm a Support soldier, then of course I've been trained - if I'm a Trooper, then I probably wouldn't know which end you point at the vehicle, and I'd certainly do more damage than good.

On the other hand, if pick-up kits can be implemented without having soldier kits drop, then this is the difference between a 'cool' feature and a feature that could seriously enhance gameplay. When given the option between gameplay and a gimmick, I tend to choose gameplay.
...at least, I'd choose gameplay if the improvement is positive. If pickup kits are implemented poorly (read: people camping weapon spawn points, etc.) then I'd rather not have them at all. But that kinda goes without saying, and I'm certain that the devs wouldn't implement a crappy feature.

EDIT: Gah, didn't get to see Imperial's post before sending this up.
...but maybe pickup kits wouldn't be on every map? This hinges on whether or not kits can be picked up without also being dropped on death. If so, then maps that featured all-male, all-human teams could have pickup kits. Although now, we're getting a bit narrow, not to mention toeing the line as to what 2142 will actually let you do...

If this is a signature... why doesn't the bank accept it on cheques?

Re: Poll, sorta. Voices or Pick-up Kits.

First: Wookies / Mon calamari
Why not make the Wookie / Mon calamari / a special pick up kit ?
Aliens should be exotic, and they aren't exoitc if every second player runs around as Wookie because "Wookie are kewl !!111!!"

One thing to consider:
This needs new models & skins and is much work.

Second: Females
In BF 2142 you have the option to change from Heavy to Light Armour. I don't know if this affects also the skin & look of the model, but if so this could be a easy way to switch the gender.
But this women will look like a girl and talk like a man, if the Voices aren't changed. wink

Maybe a little less work than a Wookie...

Third: PickUp Kits of fallen Soldiers
Can live without them.
But maybe it's possible that a dead Player drops a cut down kit, only consist of his primary and secondary weapon ?
This would allow to pick up a dead mans gun and keep on fighting, but not to use special equiqment.
(But the Player will also lost his specials) Like the Special Kits in PoE the dropped kit could look like the weapon.

Forth: SpecialPickUp Kits in Armourys ect:
I like the armoury in PoE, it's a good feature.
In armourys all five standard Kits should be aviable. The kits should respawn after a Flag is taken, and only be usable by the matching side, so that the correct skins are included.

Special Kits may be Wookies, Botans, better Stormtroopers (Jetpacks ?).
Or "hidden" SpecialKits with only a lightsaber and a Pistol - think of the Katanas in PoE.

Fith: I would like to add "The Commander" to this poll.
In every Round of First Strike i played the squads don't coordinate their actions.
In most cases all squads are running to the same flag, leave the other out.
Or all squads run to attack a Flag, no Squad stays behind to defense.

Even without UAV, Artillery, Scan, EMP and Supplydrop a commander would be real helpfull to coordinate the squads.

CYNIC, n. A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be. Hence the custom among the Scythians of plucking out a cynic’s eyes to improve his vision

Re: Poll, sorta. Voices or Pick-up Kits.

I'm going to go with pick up kits. They'll add more depth to the current forces, rather a new model+voice.

ACTUALLY, you can use the supply drop as commander in FS, speaking of which, perhaps it shouldn't be the same model as one from vanilla.

Re: Poll, sorta. Voices or Pick-up Kits.

I would much rather have no pickup kits, and have unique character voices, than have all factions be human only just to have a few kits around.  I haven't really missed the ability that much.

Re: Poll, sorta. Voices or Pick-up Kits.

With regard to gender and race, what if each class had both a male and female model with support having a wookie model also. When you choose a class it randomly selects your race/gender. Or better yet, make it a choice.
