Topic: Upgrading the Processor of a Laptop

Well now that Call Of Duty 4 is out, its become clear that my Alienware laptop needs some upgrading.  It already has 2 gigs of good ram, a shader 3.0 graphics card, but unfortunetely i was an idiot and only bought it with 1.66ghz intel pentium processor.  Now i might want to upgrade it, but i dont know if i can or how much it would cost.  It is an Alienware laptop and i'm pretty sure the motherboard is removable.  I'd want to upgrade to a 2.44ghz or so processor, how much do you think that would cost, and would i send it to Alienware to do that job?

now is the moment in life where you learn firsthand not to buy a laptop ...
secondly,  the concept of a "gaming laptop" is quite a paradox of terminology.
Its like calling something an " ultra high performance motor home."
You are actually limited by the graphics card not being able to upgrade, more than a lack of processors that will even work on that system.

Re: Upgrading the Processor of a Laptop

i was fully aware when i got the laptop that laptops arent designed as gaming, but its not like i'm asking to play Crysis on this thing. But it has worked one everything from Oblivion to First Strike, and its only when i downloaded the demo for Call of Duty 4 that it slowed down a bit during the really intense parts, although i played it on highest possible settings.  I realize that i wont be able to keep up for Direct X 10 games, but all i'm missing for Call of Duty 4 is 2.44ghz processer.  I could probably play it overclocking but i'm too scared to try it, i heard it ruins your computer, especially a laptop.

Re: Upgrading the Processor of a Laptop

maybe you can add more RAM , but I know the processor upgrade is probably only in the range of a few hundered megahertz at best, and probably not cheap either.
Good luck bro .

Minimum spec for a dual core is 1.8 ghz on cod4, you might look into that if you have the right socket type.

Re: Upgrading the Processor of a Laptop

upgrading processors on laptops is difficult, you gotta look at your mainboard specs, how high you can go with a processor, though from my personal experience its better to save for a new one than to upgrade the processor. i personally also use my laptop for gaming (and working), and im very aware of the fact that i am not able to play the newest games on the highest settings.
