well, its a very complex tournament.  I just got an email telling me all the rules, and at the moment, I think the fleet movement is more important than actual ingame fighting... kinda interesting.

If you want to be a reserve shock trooper, and clearly arent part of your teams command process, you arent needed until the dates of the actual battles are decided. In that case you will be needed to pilot or as ground troops depending on the type of engagement.

If you cant make the date you will be missed , but fights are rarely scheduled where we cant arrange everyone a good time.  I have a system for expediting the process of getting the two teams together to settle a dispute.

Rebels have put a ship in hyperspace and it hasnt come out yet.
Imperials have moved  battlegroup B-3  out away from the imperial base, and are likely preparing for hyperspace as well.
Deployment of transport and fighter assets is allowed on day cycle 3.
