Topic: FS frustration

OK, before i get started everything i could possibly think of is updated on my PC, even PB.  I have tried to install this mod several times in every possible combination i could think of.  From reading through the forums it seems that FS should be installed like this:  BF2142, patch1.25, patch 1.4, FS 1.1.          I have also read about and installed this way:  BF2142, patch 1.25, FS 1.1, patch 1.4  .......along with other combinations.  It seems that there is a bit of confusion on which way to install.  (* note that outa all the times i installed, i can go into game, click on advanced with only "same mod" & "same version" checked,  and i see FS servers but can't join, then getting an error telling me to "update" *)  Jus wondering if someone who has the mod running correctly could write step by step instructions on the proper way to install this mod starting from scratch / vanilla BF2142 if possible. If necessary, links to the sources would definitely be appreciated.

P.S.  I also read somewhere on these forums that there is a possible FS1.1 hotfix patch?  Does this patch even exist?
                                                   Thank You!!

Re: FS frustration

Always make sure when re-doing everything , to not only un-install the previous attempts, but to also go delete the whole directory folder that contained it... in most cases would remove the electronic arts folder also. Delete them . Empty your recycle bin .
Even after uninstall , most games leave their directories intact, and these variables screw with ( taint ) new installs.
THen re-install your sequence of game, patches, mod, patches ... and re-download your patches if you cant get it to work after that. A high percentage of large downloads get corrupted during transfer or during storage. Thats microsofts fault.

Its mostly leftover registry entries that fudge things up

Re: FS frustration

Its bad to post directions for editing the registry though.
And if you do , you are guaranteed to get blamed for some fool  screwing up his whole computer.
Its like telling someone how to remove their own cataract, and them going and doing it ...

Re: FS frustration

the right order for installing is:
BF 2142,
BF 2142 Patch 1.25,
FS 1.0,
FS Patch 1.1,
BF 2142 Patch 1.40

with PB updated and such it should work out fine then

Re: FS frustration

You could also do it in this order
BF 2142,
BF 2142 Patch 1.25,
BF 2142 Patch 1.40
FS 1.0,
FS Patch 1.1

OR

BF 2142,
BF 2142 Patch 1.25,
BF 2142 Patch 1.40
FS 1.1

The only problem with that is when you go to install FS it will say, "This is not compatible"  When that message comes up just hit ignore and it should work fine.
