About the badges:
It seems to me (a n00b) that the badge system encourages the players to familiarize themselves with all weapons. The sniper badge is nice but in order to get all the badges you need to become a well rounded player. This encourages the players to learn to use the recon kit/ medic kit… + each weapon in the kit. When one type of gameplay (lets say sniper) becomes tiresome you can try another kit. It’s a way to keep people interested in the game. (At least it seems to work for me.) Also in BF2142 if you are a lone sniper (like I like to do) you have to watch your back because someone will be hunting your tags. The tags system keep a cap on Snipers. Squads are thus safer from knifers. Also if a recon team wants to be effective they will need at minimum 2 players on the team. 1 sniper and 1 medic/support to keep the sniper alive & watch his back. (Just like in real life) This will limit the amount of effective snipers a team can have.
I’m not for a knife badge but I’m not against it either. Badges/ Ranks and Unlocks definitely make the game challenging. I for one have never finished a game where I have applied the “hamsters” cheat. Why? It gets boring. There’s no challenge. Challenges force us to evaluate our type of gameplay and modify it to suit the current set of events. The players that do that the best are the best.
As a n00b on BF 2142 I have very little to work with. Yes I get my but handed to me by players that have more. And it does suck to always be at the bottom. But as my tag slowly starts to creep up the page there is a sense of accomplishment. I got kills on guys with a TON more equipment options than I have.
One thing I think is missing from BF2142 (as far as I can tell) is a Recon badge that bases itself on number of enemy identified to your team. I mean when I play the recon kit I end up identifying 10 times more enemy than I actually end up killing. And lets face it good players in 2142 hardly ever stand still so they are difficult/impossible to snipe. They are however possible to identify and the troops in the thick of combat can use that info to defend silos/flags.
One thing that I think would benefit the BF2142 game is to make the knife useless except for an open flesh hit. Like in the neck. Slashing someone with armor is useless. And supposing it’s the year 2142 I would imagine that clothing would be pretty resilient to cutting. Maybe its just me. So I would keep knifes in/ maybe badges but keep them only effective on precise hits to certain areas. Now try and get that badge.
That’s all. I want to keep it short.
