Topic: Bad Players

Alright...about 50% of the time i see someone put a suggestion up on the forums, it is rejected because:

A: "Well...players could abuse this, do this and that, be stupid, etc. etc."

B: "Well this will probably encourage lone wolfing, so we CAN'T have any of this."

My response is, theres ALWAYS going to be noob players doing all of this, new features or not. It's impossible to prevent, because (unfortunately) a LOT of players are simply stupid, and they will go out and lone wolf, get killed, and simply repeat it over and over and come out of the game with no points. Just because there are a bunch of stupid players that may exploit some of these new things that we want to put in, doesn't mean you just reject new features all together just from fear of having some idiot mess it all up. It comes out as his loss anyway. (and on top of that...ever heard of "Kick Vote"?) We can still have new features, but just put up rules on some servers like "No exploiting [glitch/bug] or you will be kicked.". It's in my opinion a much better solution than just negating all of these special features that nearly all of us want to see in the mod, even when its perfectly possible to do, but rejected because of how it could be exploited.

A: "Well...players could abuse this, do this and that, be stupid, etc. etc."

B: "Well this will probably encourage lone wolfing, so we CAN'T have any of this."

Both of which are perfectly good responses. If a feature introduces more griefing, exploits, unfairness and quality-reducing elements than it introduces good elements, it's a destructive feature and shouldn't be put in, it's as simple as that.

My response is, theres ALWAYS going to be noob players doing all of this, new features or not.

This is immaterial, as we're not seeking to reduce the number to zero in the first place. It's like saying, 'why do doors have locks?  There will always be burglars, no matter what you do, so why bother?". Well, we don't stop locking our doors because doing so would increase burglary and thus decrease the "playability" of real life. Likewise, we're not giving every soldier on the battlefield bacta because it'd reduce the playability of First Strike.

Just because there are a bunch of stupid players that may exploit some of these new things that we want to put in, doesn't mean you just reject new features all together just from fear of having some idiot mess it all up. It comes out as his loss anyway.

As I'm sure as I said three times in the Exiting Starships thread: FS is a team game, so if a person on my team does something stupid, it hurts my entire team. When I play Endor Strike Team and lose because I'm the only person defending the Imperial Outpost, it hurts my gameplay experience. When my two teammates are back at the Ewok Village trying to recap it, even though I tell them by text message that Imperials can't recapture control points, and even though one would think that they should realize that if they camp a site for ten minutes and the control doesn't start to shift in their direction even a little... that means you can't capture that site, it decreases my gameplay experience.

(and on top of that...ever heard of "Kick Vote"?)

I try to kick people who relentlessly spam map votes and useless text messages like 'VOTE YES!", "PAGE UP", "THIS MAP SUCKS", etc. so that team communication becomes hard. I try to kick people who teamkill deliberately. I report griefers, hackers and smacktards. But kicking people because they don't work as teammates, or because they are new to a game mechanism? Not even Ty does that, and that's saying something.

who cares points? who cares ranks? who cares commander? yeah noobs care... big_smile

Who cares teamwork and making an effort for the sake of your teammates? I care.

Re: Bad Players

Alright, anywho...Safe, i understand some of what you're saying. But still...you can't just take every feature away just because someone might mess it up! You may as well say "Lets shut down FS now. Too many noobs are playing it and since they mess with the game experience, we're not going to host it anymore." If people just took away everything that could POSSIBLY cause a problem, then there wouldn't be games. In every game, there is ALWAYS a way to mess something up. (tribes 2 construction mod: Spamming deployables. Other games: Hacks, chat-spam, exploits.) Just because there is a way to mess something up, you have to have faith in the SMART part of the playerbase who wouldn't be so stupid to do such things. If he lone wolfs, it comes out as his loss because he will never get a point. If he does it to the point that it's a total burden for his team, he may as well be accused of letting the enemy kill him intentionally. To put it simply, Nobody is going to repetitively walk off a cliff, killing themselves over and over, unless they want to be a burden to their team and intentionally reduce their tickets, in which case they will be kicked.

Edit: Battlemaster...theres an "Edit" button under your posts. Edit them like so instead of posting over and over like you did on the first page please.

S-Guy, Suriander "deleted" his messages between my messages.

Edit by TY2D2: No, I did because all your comments were off topic and nonconstructive. Keep on the topic at hand.

I second this.

Two things thing to add though:

get killed, and simply repeat it over and over and come out of the game with no points

Contradicting I must say.

who cares points? who cares ranks? who cares commander? yeah noobs care... big_smile

This is a competetive game, not only against the enemy team, but also interteam about who's doing best.
It's human nature to want to be the best, and earn recognition for a job well done. Be it a computer game or something else.

yep, that's true. But to be honest, I play for fun, i don't really care for points, they are meaningless (mostly). And for fun it needs teamplay (in this game). I think the teamplay is way better in this mod than in the vanilla BF 2142 but thats another point smile
