The really sad part is that I was actually making some breakthroughs in the mod with figuring out the stability issues.
As far as the multiplayer, I had been testing new consolidated client and server versions and the only issue that I was having was with Bandomeer Refinery, which I think I know how to fix now. One problem is that the map did not have coop, but only SP. But if you add it to the map rotation unless you knew not to grab it for coop, it would appear anyway. Someone in project reality mentioned that the first map in the list needs to have all the game modes listed, even if no player levels are listed. I would be willing to be bet 2142 is the same way.
The other break through was figuring out that automated weapons are buggy and can cause a crash if used in a weapon position that players can use. The option I was looking at was to make two version, one with just automated weapons and one for only players and bots to use.
I was also making huge strides in expanding and adding SP/COOP support to more maps.
So what would it take to bring First Strike back? We would need to figure out how to run our own master account server and bring back our own stat tracking. That way we would not be depending on anyone else.
The next step would be set up an installer that would install the game files needed to play First Strike as a stand alone game, without BF2142. This would be similar to what Project Reality did. That way we could offer up First Strike as a download, without any mention of 2142. Project Reality is managing to get away with it...
