Topic: Awesome!

After a long disappointing weekend unable to play the mod I woke this morning to the patch and was thoroughly impressed. Great work guys. The space maps really do have the feel of the old simulators like X-wing, TIE fighter etc.

There are too many pros to list them all so I just wanted to list issues or things to consider.

-Dust FX on the land vehicles. The At-st stomping around would look great with small clouds of dust being kicked up. The speeders could have a dust wake once they get over a certain speed.

-More real world detail in the building textures. Rust stains, salt build up, graffiti, playbills, weeds, cracks, stucco patches. A job for your texture artists.

-More static models on Endor. I see lots of ferns and redwoods but how about swapping some ferns for shrubs, bushes or young pines. Both 2142 and Bf2 have some great models and it would mean just importing them rather than all the work of creating new models. How about abandoned Ewok settlement pieces?

-A radar or sensor effect on the capital ships in the space maps. It would aid the gunners and pilot. Simply using the UAV effects from 2142 would work great.

-A Fleet commander people can apply for on space maps. Someone to coordinate movements and defense.

-Increasing the top speed of capital ships. Make them start out slow, like a lot of energy is needed to get them moving but once going they chug along nicely.

(This is the BIG ONE)
-Use some of the default 2142 maps and tool them to have the first strike vehicles and armies. It would mean A) You'd more than double your number of maps. B) Be a good pacifier as you work on your signature maps. C) Provide a little familiarity to players as they learn about all the First strike goodies. D) With some work you could drastically increase your number of CO-OP maps. I was told the bots won't recognize the vehicles but once that's overcome I see those maps being great fun.

Thanks for a great mod. I've been waiting for a Star Wars game like this for several years now.

Hello Johnny, good to see you are enjoying yourself.
Regarding your questions.

I thought there allready was a dust effect to the vehicles, but your probably mean larger clouds. Those could be considered. We do have to ensure they don't cause lag however, so I don't know if it is possible.

Those are things that will most likely be implemented later.

More statics on endor. We had several ferns and shrubs on endor, but they caused some lag issues, so there for we removed them and have the current one. Maybe in time we will be able to add more, but currently not due to the strain it causes. And there is a entire ewok village up in the trees.

The capital ships already have a UAV system that works constantly, but someone needs to be in a capital ship for it to work.

Squad leaders can allready assign places on the map. But a fleet commander could be a good idea.

Capital ship speed. We would need more response on that I think.

Using default maps with FS vehicles. That could probably be done, but main focus is to get the FS maps shorted out. There is still much to do and I don't know how easy it is to do. Plus it would take away some of the Star Wars feel the maps have now.

Thanks for the response. It makes sense on all counts. I can certainly see why plants were removed from Endor. That was one of the best looking maps in Battlefront (I admit I bought that for PC... still sad to this day) but I'm sure for both you guys (development teams) it was a monumental task.

-The Fleet commander (I picture Ackbar speaking right now) could coordinate the squadrons and do long range scans while ordering his gunners to focus fire on particular targets. Really nothing new that hasn't been the role of commander in 2142.

-As for the default 2142 maps converted to First Strike. So many of them already look like something from the Star Wars realm. When I did my 1/2 pie test to see if I could import the maps (Tunis Harbor was my test) and replace the vehicles it literally took me about a minute. (Copy/paste the text into the init.con and the gameplayobjects.con then dump the map folder into first strike. Granted it crashed due to the bots not knowing how to treat the FS vehicles but that seems like some AI editing work and you currently have what 4 land vehicles?

To me they all look very earth like, and lets not forget that you would also be exposed to the ads.
I think it would be a shame to "dilute" this mod with the vanilla maps.

I like the Fleet commander idea as well. People still are not coordinating capital ships for best effect.

Mmmm, Fleet commander. I would say this would be useful for those map with true Cap ships, so like, the artillery strike can just be a cannon barrage from a Mon Cal cruiser or a Imperial battleship.
