Topic: Ask the Devs a question

Thought it might give us an insight into what you guys do if you would maybe answered a few questions on how things are going or how things are done.
I'd like to start the ball rolling by asking how difficult was it to get the AT-ST working in game. As the vanilla 2142 has a walker was it a simple conversion process or did it have to be completely reworked
I know Hoth has been talked about with working AT-AT's. Any progress?

Re: Ask the Devs a question

Any chance to get a "stripped down" version of First Strike for BF2, maybe as Demo ?

Stripped Down:
No Walkers, no Speeders...

I ask because many of the people i ask to try FirstStrike don't have BF 2142 and didn't want to buy it because "It's only a mod for the full price" "I don't like BF 2142 because the Laserweapons", "No jets in it".
Ironically most admit they like to play a StarWars mod for BF 2 and have never played 2142, but they want pay 45 €uros for a game like BF 2142 (only new Maps & Modells, like making them is no work... sad )

Re: Ask the Devs a question

where in the world do these people live where the cheapest they can find bf2142 is 45€? even a new sealed copy shouldn't go for that much. check the bargain bins, i found my copy for about 13€.

Re: Ask the Devs a question

There are actually stores still selling it at full price, believe it or not. Or at least there were some months ago. And yes, they should hunt down a cheap bargain bin copy or something. Paying full price for an old game just to play a mod is ridiculous.

Since I coded 90% of it I feel comfotable in saying , it wasn't easy. Even though vanilla has walkers they are a different size, have a different amount of moving parts, a different skeleton, a somewhat hardcoded mech system and quite frankly alot of new features non of us were familiar with. It took 4 people to work on this in total.

Luuri-Modeling/texturing and rigging
GD-Initial research
Woody-Assisting with some coding issues
Blitz-Balance of the work with exporting and coding.

It took 2 months and over 50 different export files.

As far as the ATAT goes, I have it in game and moving around, after 1.2 I will spend most of my tme completing it smile Hope that answers ur questions

Re: Ask the Devs a question

Thanks for that smile At present i think the AT-ST is one of the coolest parts of the mod. Looking forward to seeing that At-At, it must be impressive to see something that size move in game
We see in some of the maps that its possible to enter buildings, was this an easy thing to do and will we maybe see more more of it in future? (entering the rebel base hangers for a fire fight and flag cap would be pretty cool)
