Space is boring.  Period.   Ya got 1-4 ships on each side giving very little choice.   Objectives are liniar, Fly to point A, Spend your bomber load, run into ship, repeat.   And incredibly boring maps like Death Star take for ever with those bloody towers taking 100+ torpedo hits.  I litteraly sat there on the surface of the Death Star (in a little cuby and floating up to shoot torpedos then back down) shooting it for 5-10 minutes before it blew up.....

And how on Earth did you accomplish this, with enemy turrets and TIEs about? If you were on a Local server, all by yourself, then Heck, of course it's boring. If you were on a populated server, you must've run into an exceptionally incompetent Imp team.

It was with the average number of players playing on a FS server normaly, 8-10 total.    Being low and for the most part unseen helps.   Can only seem me when I pop out and shoot or if you look down when near directly overhead :-P

Strike on Endor, make it a push on both ways with the first rebel point being uncapable.   If not that ATLEAST make it to where people have to enter the building in the Imp Base and not just lay on top of it in speeder bikes (do that with all instances of the building).

We have. The Imp Outpost has at least two, perhaps three, turbo laser towers you can enter to gun the griefers down. And if you're concerned with people capping a CP before you can reach it, well, as was said, you need to know when to retreat.

Never seen anyone in any towers and no clue where enterable ones would be.   In anycase, nothing is on the back side of the building to shoot at people having a tea party behind the 2nd floor part.   Its just rediculus that a mod that claims it hates lone wolfing so encurages it by letting people just fly around the map anyware and bypass all choak points/squads/people to capture a point.   Won Espa (or Eisly, what ever the original big daytime Tat map is) in like 5-10 minutes w/ only 2 kills by flying on a speeder bike to all the points.   Didn't even use the roads....

B-Wings have the manuverability of a Tie-Bomber, with the anti-fighter power of a Interceptor or X-Wing, and the anti-Capital of a Bomber.   Its lasers fire so rediculusly fast and do quite decent damage at a very respectable spread.

What does the Ion (blue lasers, torpedos) do anyway?  It says no where in game about anything on any weapons really.   One of the main problems with the mod IMO.   In Vanilla, when you get in a vehicle or switch weapons or do anything for the first time you get a voice telling you about it.   So very much of the game is vield in mystery to anyone who doesn't read the web page.  That keeps people from understanding the game or even playing for very long.

In other words, FS is in no way conducive to new players joining and playing it.   And thats bad for ANY game....

Look, I'm sorry, but it's not that hard to look these things up. I agree that you should have labels explaining what each weapon and item is, like in PR, but the voice-overs guiding you along like in Vanilla are just ridiculous - and very annoying to people who have played the game before. I hated starting up FH2 only to hear a patronizing voice yap about how to jump, take control points, etc.

FS has a detailed Wiki with articles on all the maps, vehicles, etc. (it's lacking right now, but being updated); loading screen hints, loading screen gamemode descriptions... there's lots of documentation for it, and it's, with respect, not our fault if people don't want to look them up.

The beauty of all this is ...
It is 100% guaranteed certain that there will never ever be a game or simulation that makes everyone happy... in fact, there will be a small sliver of minority that is offended so much they crap their pants regularly.
So, in this spirit, lets all be happy someone is willing to crap their pants, to spare everyone else.

There is alot of Documentation outside of the game.   Problem is only like  25% or so (of regular games) actualy follow up on the game on the web.   It has to be ingame so that everyone can understand the game w/o havine to stop playing the game.

The voice overs only happen once and you can typicaly turn them off in the options.   I think you can suffer through about 1-3 minutes of total voice-over so that you can keep new players and have... ya know... people actualy PLAY the game.....

And as far as I can see, no where in the Wiki does it say what Ion Cannons do....

Re: Why I'm Uninstalling

Has he uninstalled yet? Good stuff.

Weapons are balanced, almost all the vehicles are balanced.  There are some issues with the new maps and we'll have a fix out for them (and the remaining balance problems) very shortly.  Just bear with us for a few more days and all will be resolved smile

Maybe you haven't played the map after after 1.2, then wink ?

You can. Play the game in windowed mode so you can alt-tab into the wiki. PR is far less intuitive and newbie-friendly than FS and I manage to play it just fine in windowed mode, alt-tabbing in and out.

That's funny, 'cause in the old days there was very little, if any, of the modern hand-holding in games. When I got a new SNES game, or rented one, I'd happily sit in the car on the way home and read the colourful manual in eager anticipation. It was part of the fun. And if there was something in-game you didn't get, you just had to either experiment or pause it for a few secs and, to be frank, RTFM. And there were still loads of people who, you know... PLAYED the games. Today, on the other hand, manuals are short black-and-white pamphlets, reading them is apparently thought to transmute HIV or something judging from the hostility towards the act from today's players, and everything has to be spoon-fed the player in-game.

1: Space.

Why is space even in this? last time I looked 2142 is a FPS not a flightsim. Points for trying, but this is just a waste of time/resources to get this to work. It's bad... very very bad. I'm not sure if its because the fans of the space part has never played a real flightsim or what... but its lacking most of the main parts of a flightsim.

dude its star wars man, you got have space battles. the only problem i have with it, it seems like the space maps last to long, it feels like one game is an hour long, to many tickets maybe.
i suck at flight maps, but their fun.

2: Balance

Rebel ships/armor/gear is far better then imps in every way... don't even get me started on the reb assault rifle. Reb guns are stronger, more accurate then any of the same imp type weapons. AT20 vs E 11 = joke. Imp sniper rifle? three shots. Reb? always 1-2 shots. anti-tank weapons? 5-10 shots to down one tank?

yeah i guess you're right.

3: Map size.

Most maps are just to large, you get hotspots of action with a 5 min run in the middle. You want the game to be group based but the only way to move units at a semi fast speed is in 2 person armor.. ( less your a reb and you get the APC )

i feel the same, the maps do feel very large unlike the orginal maps. and maybe too many checkpoints?

I had such high hopes for this mod I really did, but I think you guys just put way to much time and energy into parts that really did not need it. Scrap the space junk, downsize the maps and balance out the weapons/kits/factions. Do this and you might get more then two servers running at a time.

1.2 is awesome, 2142 was getting boring and this mod is free and its star wars. there are some problems with it, but i still have a great time playing it.
