Re: Some minor tweaks/suggestions (1.2)
hey, first of all I want to say that this mod is awsome. The only problem I have which I'm surprized you guys havn't addressed was the shooting aspect in the spacecraft. It seems there needs to be a limiter on the firing as some of the other Star Wars games have. Space battles have become nothing but instances of people holding down the trigger and going to town. I think the battles would be more authentic If we really had to plan our shots. I think the hard core players would agree.
Heya Darth Arcane, welcome to First Strike! As for your complaint, the first days and weeks of space combat were like this when R1 first came out, too. Then people realized that at range, their shots didn't really accomplish anything, and that stealth and ambushes are actually important tactics in space maps as there's no mouse look and fighters thus can't easily see you coming unless you're going at them head-on. So if you worry about the authenticity of the space battles, don't worry - the laser spamming should quiet down once people get to know space maps better. This should also make them far less "random" and more fun to play.
- Tanks should not be able to climb the mountains on Rhen Var, only speeders. I was in a squad and we were wrecking tanks from above on the mountaintops and some tank came by and ran over half of us. That was silly.
If you thought that was silly, you haven't seen a trio of AT-STs walk down a ninety degrees slope
. But yes, maybe mountainsides should be a bit steeper, or tanks a bit less able to go uphill. I don't know. What I do know is that sitting in the tower overlooking the Harbour CP, popping off rockets at T1-Bs below, and turning around and realizing that one of the things is right behind me - didn't feel silly at all but only rather terrifying. It was a genuine "oh s**t" moment, and I survived only because there was a steep slope nearby that I could slide down (with the tank tumbling after me
).
