Topic: Great Fleet Battle?

What Battle of Taloraan needs is a lot of people. Throw in the new coordinating commander to give orders, have a period of time where things are planned out before-hand, and organise seperate squads for every individual ship and fighter squadron, with the squad leader commanding the vessel or the squadron, and we could have some VERY epic space battles.

To that end, I think we should have a planned gathering with as MANY people as we can muster on one server. We could follow the Community Game evening format, but have it be on a VERY powerful/reliable US east coast server (enough to run with at least 48 people on it, but 64 players would obviously be best), and with the only map being Battle of Taloraan, either 32-size or 64-size (I'd like 64 size).

I know that not everyone likes space maps, but those people that don't like taking the helm or the controls can man a gun in what has potential to be an amazing few battles. Plus, if the server could run Battlerecorder and not lag, we could have some of the media-savvy developers make a promo video for First Strike using source material from the battles. Anyone else agree that this would be a great time?

P.S. Depending on how much pre-battle planning goes into this whole deal and how many people show up, maybe it'd be a cool idea to have a three-five minute cease-fire period at the beginning of the round so that each team can organize/orient their fleet and fighters to their admiral's liking before going after each other.

An illustration for the squadding format (commander and squad leaders would be determined prior to the match, people then join in their wanted squads depending on what they want to do, if they choose to drop in):

Rancor Team or Wampa Team:
Admiral (Crews on one of the heavy ships):
NEBF ONE or CRCK ONE: 2 members + Admiral
NEBF TWO or CRCK TWO: 3 members
CRV ONE or LCR ONE: 3 members
CRV TWO or LCR TWO: 3 members
TRANSP or FREGHT (all members crew both ships): 4 members
AWING or TIE F: 4-6 members
XWING or TIE I: 4 members
BWING or TIE B: 4-6 members

Re: Great Fleet Battle?

Oh yeah, well that is what Taloraan is designed for,  epic space battles, the more the merrier. I've had a few heavily populated rounds on Taloraan where the teams are well co-ordinated and to say it looks and feels epic would be a massive understatement.

Also a round of Taloraan becomes infinitely better as with all things in First Strike when people are working well together. This is definitely something I'd recomend.

I agree wink

I play with a Campaing Community, called Operation Pandora Trigger. We have done such a thing lately to promote our community.

Make a Community Game Night wiht a Theme like "Space Battle Madness"

Put only Space Maps on the Server, in different Sizes (16, 32, 64). If enought Players are on the Server, switch the map.
Try to recruit Squadleaders / Commader before the Game Night, so you have fixed players for this position.
If the Squadleaders / Commanders for each side are chosen, they can plan the Battles
(Wich Squadleaders command the Bombers ? Who mans the CapShips ?, Selcet the fighter Squads to defend the CapShips and defend the Bombers ect...)

Try to get a Teamspeakserver or use the VOIP System of BF 2142.

Re: Great Fleet Battle?

As Talon says, we have had some epic battles on Taloraan in the past. Co-ordinated teams work very well together as long as each knows the limits of the ship they are in. Taking one of the transports out to use as a battle cruiser is definitely a no no, something I see far too often. They should be paired up with something bigger for protection while at the same time being able to repair its protecting big brother.

My biggest bug bear though is bombers who suddenly decide they are fighters, smash in to a fighter thats attempting to kill the attacker then punish them for doing their job. If your in a bomber and come under attack run back to friendly forces and hope they pick it off, or go head to head against another enemy, often the two will hit each other and give you some breathing space.

If your not sure what to do in a space map, get in a fighter NOT a cap ship. Yes you need to learn, but running towards the enemy with no idea what your doing while typing messages will cost your team valuable tickets. Better to get in a fighter and then ask rather than sacrifice a valuable asset.

Re: Great Fleet Battle?

I think shattered planet should change their taloraan to the 64 man version, 32 man doesn't last nearly as long as it should.

Re: Great Fleet Battle?

True, though I think Shattered Planet should also get a server that can support more players, if they can. They or Wolfgaming would be perfect for something like this.

Re: Great Fleet Battle?

Just set the community game for Friday 21:00 Hours.  That'll probably let people in Europe and the US join in to it.
