Re: Simple tweek for endor

Yea thats my reasoning, simply add a vehicle rather than rebuild .
I think a server side mod allowing peoples stock maps to be used will allow a lambda to be positioned somewhere.  Ive been working with this a few minutes this week as busy as I am...
If enor strike team , or even better - endor clearing , had one lambda ( because its hard to fly and can carry people ) things would be even more interesting .   Maybe not in a release, but as a server setting I think it would offer the public more play.
Like even add one single tie fighter to endor strike team , and put its spawn in some semi-difficult place to climb up to.  lol    fun

Re: Simple tweek for endor

Well the map is simply not designed for aircraft in several respects, from a gameplay point of view it would unbalance a map which is primarily infantry based, not to mention it would be next to impossible to fly the thing with all the trees in the way, and from an aesthetic pont of view if you flew a craft above the forest canopy you'd get a weird looking skybox as it is not designed to be seen from that angle, plus the trees are not meant to be seen from above either, so this is a bad idea on lots of levels, a map has to be designed specifically to accomodate aircraft, just putting aircraft on any old map without taking this into consideration is a bad move.

Re: Simple tweek for endor

Luke, didn't you read my post? Or for that matter other peoples' posts?

1. As far as I know, it's not lore-accurate or realistic. The battle was fought by infantry, speeder bikes, and AT-ST's. I don't even like the inclusion of the probot, so naturally I wouldn't want to see a flying shuttle.
2. Landing a shuttle in a heavily forested map would be very difficult, and come to think of it, there are only a few places it can land. The losses would be really high, even if we went into the map editor and made a whole lot of more clearings for it to use as landing zones.
3. The trees are low-polygon models which look nice enough from ground level, but downright horrible from above. Open a BattleRecorder file of EST and you'll know what I mean. So we'd have to make new tree models from scratch.
4. Because of the edge the shuttle would give Imperials, adding it would require hours of testing and rebalancing.

Seriously, even if we disregard points 1, 2, and 4, I still advise you to take a look at the Endor map from above using BR. When I use such language as "Downright horrible", I mean it. EST's landscape looks good from ground level and even from atop the landing platform, but was very clearly not designed for altitudes above that.

Re: Simple tweek for endor

right , Im not discouting what you are saying , I totally agree ,  im just stating that some experimentation would be fun. Not to serve as some kind of direction for the mods release version, just for fun and to try new things. Any experiemts I do wont hurt anyone , lol. Im probably not going to even make any changes public if I succeed in server side modding a map. If I did it would only be from positive responses from the FS design group to do so. If I discover something insanely fun I will be sure to share with the devs and testers.
Doing weird stuff sometimes leads to discoveries,
