Re: =NfB= Running First Strike Server

For some reason, many players are having a PB kick a few minutes after joining the server. It has something to do with PB trying to update but not being able to. The message in the PB Logs is always:

VIOLATION (AUTO-UPDATE FAILURE) #141:  player's name (slot #) This PB Server Requires (A1375 C2.057) - Error loading pbcl player's GUID(-) player's IP

From what I have read, the "cl" on "pbcl" stands for Client, which is the player's computer. The message it gives is that the server is running and old version and then it kicks you. We have not found a permanent fix, but we have found a temporary fix. When you first join the game, hit "~" to open the console and then type in "pb_security 0" and you will not be kicked. We had some members last night that were getting kicked and after joining again and typing that in the console they were able to play for a few hours with no kicks.

If any of you can come up with a permanent fix it would be much appreciated.

Re: =NfB= Running First Strike Server

Update the PB on your server the same way you would for your client manually.  I have had to do this in the past and it works (if you can't, have your server provider do it)

Re: =NfB= Running First Strike Server

Really? Do tell!

I don't typically hand out lists of exploits to people who ask for them, especially not on public forums, unless they're capable of solving the problem.

The choice is simple, and has nowt to do with exploits:

Really? You've just been told that disabling a feature of the game causes exploits, and you don't think it's relevant? I find that very strange, especially when it comes from a guy who is, as far as I know, a server admin?

-Turn FF On if you don't want your players to have as much fun as they could, particularly on space maps. [...] It's your server, so you make the choice. I remain convinced that the vast majority of players just want to have fun, so I suggest you don't let the Realism Police lean on you too heavily.

Re: =NfB= Running First Strike Server

Turning FF off in First Strike has the benefits that we've listed countless times before (prevents friendlies running into your mines, friendly fighters crashing into you etc etc), we feel they outweigh the negative exploits that can be used by having it on. We have FF off and the server doesn't see any major exploitation of that fact. At the end of the day it is up to those who run the servers to decide how to set it up, as long as the server still provides a fun and positive environment to play in and people come back for more, I see no problem with this.

Re: =NfB= Running First Strike Server

I can understand why you don't want to post them here, so PM me with the possible exploits. As you say, I'm a server admin, so I ought to be made aware of what to keep an eye out for. As Talon says, having FF off hasn't resulted in any exploiting on RT's server – as far as I know...

FF off put me off RT server. Got fed up of people using the PMG as a battering ram.
