Re: Love/hate?

Things I Love

1) Advanced Teamplay, an element so important to First Strike and very successfully implemented, teamwork is so important to success, and yet isn't forced on a player but comes naturally through repairing, re-arming, reviving (the various kits that come together to make the E-Web/Mk.II so formidable is a great example of this. Gun/Ammo Box/Shield) and generally sticking together rather than lone wolfing.

2) Space maps, something quite unique to First Strike are it's space maps, and though not everyone loves 'em, they are an integral part of the mod, as much as space battles are a part of the Star Wars universe. The freedom to fly capital ships and fighters how you see fit is great and we can only build on this to make it more user friendly to those who do not like to fly so much such as implementing more AA style player manned turrets like on the Death Star surface in Battle of Yavin. Boarding maps are a must too, as a mix of infantry and space combat should more than keep everyone happy. The possibilities are endless, so watch this space.

wink

3) The Community, as has been said by others there is a very friendly and loyal community that have stuck with First Strike and provide challenging opponents for players as well as a welcoming helping hand to any and all new comers. We salute you sirs.

4) Attention to detail, one of the things that drew me to this mod in the first place was the level of dedication and attention to detail, finding weapons that could only be located by freeze framing a shot of the movie and then detailing a style and functionality, even a back-story to these weapons and assets to breathe life into them for the player who eventually gets to wield them. So I thought I'd help out. wink The vehicles and characters, environments and artwork in general are of a fantastically high standard of polish that stands toe to toe with official Star Wars games, with lore accuracy that often surpasses them.

5) It's frickking Star Wars!!! And I'm a Star Wars nut so I'm stuck with First Strike as it by far one of the best interactive recreations of that galaxy far far away...

Things I Hate

1) Certain weapons and assets have been need of serious tweaking for a while now, (yes I'm looking at you Torpedo Launcher) these include accuracy tweaks for some weapons, a little nerfage to others (yes, that will be the PMG I'm talking about) (but leave my Prox Mines alone Fool!!!) lol And yes, the DL44 needs its range shortened some, but not too much nerfing, after all Han Solo went toe to toe against Stormtroopers and the like only packing this weapon, so yes it is a pistol, but not in the sense of most FPSs, it is not a last ditch weapon like the knife, but a powerful piece of kit in its own right. So lessen the range, yes, but not the power or the accuracy.

2) Walker Bailers, a love/hate relationship in its own right, as in love it when an enemy fool does it, hate it when a team mate makes this silly school boy error. Unless you have someone else in there with you, do NOT get out of the Walker. Nuff said.

3) Low player count, after all this time we still are struggling to find the numbers of players to keep the mod afloat which is quite annoying despite quite a few very favourable reviews we still don't seem to be getting the recognition I think we deserve which should bring more people into the fold.

4) Stability/compatibility issues, it is one of the most difficult issues any mod, (heck any PC based game full stop) has to deal with. With all the various operating systems and graphics cards etc to work to it makes it very tricky indeed to maintain compatibility with all these factors, and it is largely due to these issues and difficulty in getting the game set up initially which will most likely have cost us the most potential new players. Hopefully once the new launcher system settles in and everyone gets used to it, this will help to alleviate this problem.

5) That bleedin' second anti-infantry cannon on the APC Freerunner!! The what you ask? The forward arc firing one that has been missing since its first release, which forces people to ridiculously have to drive it backward to use the things only weapon. If this doesn't get fixed soon I may just have to go postal on everyone here with a Death Star Superlaser or something.

lol

Eh? What's wrong with that? I don't often revive them in a way they die straight away. I always take out nearby enemies first unless there are several and camping the spot. If the dead person is paying attention he should be able to get in cover before dying again if I do try reviving again.

people standing in the lambda while it's flying then punishing the pilot for tk.

If that ever happens on DS, just tell us admins and we'll have 'em kicked. Punishing for accidental TK's or self-inflicted ones is not allowed.

About pistols. I don't see the range a problem, sure you could make them a little less accurate past 50 metres but their damage is lowered significantly at long ranges to counter the accuracy.

Things I love:
-Star Wars. I was dying for another game like Galactic Conquest and then I found this!
-The community.
-Teamplay.
-Infantry combat. It's fun and not too arcadey.
-Space combat. It can be so damn epic. Love flying them fighters and owning everybody. tongue
-Yavin. There's nothing like the feeling when you fly a Y-wing to the trench dodging turrets/ties firing, taking out a couple of ties on the way and popping the deathstar!

Things I hate:
-Snipers. The bane of FPS games IMO. People who don't work as a team, just camp far away on a cliff like cowards sniping away with annoyingly effective weapons. I especially hate people who basically do nothing but snipe. The sniper weapons should be capped to only a few people per team.
-Roofing (should be fixed soon by making the cap bubble of the outpost buildings a little smaller.)
-Duke (goes without saying.)
-Noobs that don't listen to orders. Noobs are fine as long as they learn but if they just ignore everyone else and do their own thing and in the worst case scenario don't even speak english, there's not much you can do about them.
-"Pubnubs" who just camp and don't run in the cap zone near them. Too often do I find myself capping or trying to cap a point alone when there's a bunch of friendlies around camping (and not even finding targets.)
-Rammers. You just can't take out the rebel fighters that easily so just turn away before the impact! They've also got lots of firepower so it's not very smart to go head to head for very long or you're toast.
-All anti-air weapons' crappy lock-on.
-Having to be squad leader most of the time unless I want my team to get stomped. There are way too few competent SL's. It's pretty simple really. Just pick the officer kit, tell your squad mates to attack and place a beacon somewhere hidden near the point and preferably defend its general area with your stationary blaster. Once you capture the point it's a good idea to defend for a bit and move up the beacon inside or just next to the cap zone so when attacked your squad members can spawn there and keep the point yours. Those are the basics, the rest will come to you with experience. It can be lots of fun too. I've just done it too often.
-The trooper blasters' crazy damage (never play the class. If I did I might get a crazy over 2.0 K/D ratio like Krow did tongue)
-The light repeating blasters. They have a high rate of fire and damage and they are too accurate when moving or standing. A bit too effective in close combat, especially in good hands (*shakes fist at Oddball* tongue)
-PMG as a short range weapon. You should not get away with shooting at your feet.
-Walker bailers. Ditto to what Talon said.
-Not enough active players. This week we've had surprisingly many playing and I'm hoping that trend will continue and start to increase activity.

Agree with this one, which is why I'm in favour of the various anti-sniping measures in FS (two shots to kill, even with a headshot, sniper shot visible as bright yellow line, etc.). A sniper team's main task in reality is to spot enemies, not sit there racking up headshots.

At least with the PMG and artillery you need a forward observer to be truly effective, this isn't the case with snipers.

Players who don't join a squad -> kick script or  a script to tell them "STFU and join a Squad"

Hear, hear.

Relax Samzi! I'm just jerking your chain! Your a far too effective medic! I hate taking a full squad out only to run a few steps and hear your damn defib going, turning round and seeing five angry rebels out for revenge, who only seconds ago were corpses. buggar.

Yes, this weeks been really good for midweek scraps. I try to get on every night anyway, if a few people keep a server populated eventually it tends to get busy. Folks, don't be afraid to join a server even if your on your own, others will join once they see you there! Use the time to explore the maps, find hidey holes, shortcuts and use the vehicles to get a better idea of their capabilities.

Re: Love/hate?

I hate :

The stats. For me, it's not the same game anymore.

First time I played : no stats : huge fun.

Stats : Ryloth : lag. Stats : no fun.

Am I still playing ? Not really. ( I'm trying, for RSF... )

The fact that you removed the sword. It was really fun.

The fact that you removed the hide under the Endor Clearing's galofree. Yes, you were able to go under it. Had alot of fun, I putted a beacon under it. Rebel ownage. Now it's still there, but with fire everywhere. Impossible.

Players becomming aggressive, not cool, thinking to stats only.

Things I like :

I met RSF with this mod.

I had my best killing spree moments with it.

Re: Love/hate?

what can I add, nothing like you all there are parts of the game I moan about. But even with all my moaning I THINK THIS GAME ROCK'S. I like what you like, and hate what you hate. I have been playing alittle over year now, I'll still be here next year. hopefully you all will. As the oldest player I need the BIGGEST blaster, how else do I stand a chance against all you hotshots.
Samzi, I write your name on every bullet, it's a pity there all asleep when they leave the gun....LOL
