Topic: The turtle

The turtle, aka "shield dome hopping", combines the Shield Hopping tactic and the Shield Dome. In essence, what you do is shield hop (that is, advance by placing shields in front of another), but with shield domes instead of single shields. Advancing under a turtle takes time, coordination, not to mention FOUR squad members with the HWS class but, if done right, offers superb protection to troops.

1. Form 'turtle squad'.
2. Create a shield dome by deploying two shields in opposite directions. It's tricky to get a shield dome 100% right - remember that it's better to get it too confined, but completely sealed, than to leave gaps in the shields.
3. Create a new shield dome by placing two PSGs within the existing shield dome, but closer to your destination.
4. Pick up the first shield dome and place it within the new one, again closer to your destination.
5. Keep this up until you've gotten to where you want to go.

Two people at a time will be busy placing shields, but the rest can defend the turtle against close quarter attacks. Additional allied infantry can advance under the turtle with the squad making it.

Re: The turtle

A wise move too, as one of my favourite manoeuvres is taking advantage of a single shield set up, as it makes the people taking cover behind it feel safer than they should.  Last night alone I had the pleasure of the using both theRobocop manoeuvre and the Hustler, one guy was attacking the Slave Quarters on Mos Espa, put up a shield and fired from the relative safety of its cover, only he placed the shield too close to a wall, and going all Robocop on his pie I adjusted my targeting computer to take the surrounding environment into account and bounced a grenade off the wall and behind the shield and...

BAAMM!!!

The guy never knew what hit him

cool

And now the Hustler manoeuvre. Another time in that same round defending the same CP there was a shield up within the area defending me this time. I shot from cover as a trooper tried to rush me. I dropped a Det Pack behind the shield, and then as he passed through it to get to me I slipped past him to the other side of the shield firing as I went. I then pinned him down behind the shield as we swapped places, and then...

BOOM!!!!!

Priceless. The shield even protects me from the blast.

lol

The lesson here? One shield just isn't enough to guarantee full protection, 360 degrees is the only way, and that means two shields, though to be fair, the Hustler would work just as good against two shields if not better. Would concentrate the blast more.
