Erm..only for US players. You'll also find servers in Europe populated 24/7 by euro players..same for asia and australia.

The biggest nail in the mods coffin is that fact that 2142 was never as popular as BF2, with most seeing it as little more than an expansion rather than bringing anything new to the series. FS chose 2142 however because the walker made it possible to have better anims for the ATST or something. Not only that, it also suffers from mod syndrome, as in many people are afraid to try it in case it does something to their vanilla game, or they have to change settings they normally dont touch. The average computer user is actually pretty useless when it comes to doing anything other than mash the keyboad or press a switch.

Re: what causes the deserted servers?

well in that case wouldnt you be able to port the animations into BF2?
but anyway i know that nowadays most ppl are from EU but if you advertise the mod in major sites. it will atract more ppl and lots of americans too. they will need a server and they will advertise the mod to their friends and so on.
otherwise the mod will just stick as an EU mod

Re: what causes the deserted servers?

if only things were as simple as Porting animations, or having a US Server for US players.

US Server was up for US players -> At one point, US servers outmatched the EU servers. However, the Euro servers still always had more players on them than the USers.  Advertising the mod (for major sites) requires being able to contact those officials on Behalf of the FS Dev team.  Most the people interested in getting FS "out there" don't have any status in FS.  It took me over 2 weeks of pestering to even get FS 1.4 hosted on Battlefield.Filefront.com.  This was about 3 or 4 months after it was released too.

Well, hopefully this team will get started sometime soon.

Actually, for a number of things this is the case.  BF2142 is really just a (albeit very advanced) mod of BF2. However, it adds alot of things to the game engine, most of which are not open source meaning we can't just copy the bits over to BF2 that we want to copy over.  Walker code is one of those things, I belive sad

I wouldn't want us on BF2 anyway, yeah they would be more players, but there wouldn't be epic visuals like This, I would really miss that big_smile.  FS has it's busy periods and it's quiet periods.  Right now, it's getting quiet again, but I'm confident that will change soon.

Re: what causes the deserted servers?

I remember when we had a 50 player community night and I was like having the most kills then those people never came back for some reason.
