It should also be possible to use python to create an automated Fire Control System that'd lock your lasers on the closest enemy fighter in front of you.

sounds like a targetting computer, Safe will be pleased.

That is indeed something I've wanted a long time smile . A system in which you have to aim yourself much of the time, but if you keep the enemy near the middle of your screen for long enough, eventually your starfighter aims by itself, almost guaranteeing hits and a kill. Would make the gunner position on the Y-Wing far more useful, and also, possibly, dramatically change the way head-to-head attacks play out.

If even half of this can be implemented in at least single-player, space combat in FS will be ten times cooler.

Another thing that would be interesting would be to make shielded fighters, such as the X-wing and TIE Defender, automatically replenish their hit points, while unshielded fighters didn't. Would make sense if we get the shield display working, make the shielded fighters more distinct from the unshielded ones, and would possibly also allow some nifty features such as dumping your laser energy to shields for faster recharge, like in the X-Wing series of games.

Afaik, this can be done by setting ObjectTemplate.armor.hpLostWhileCriticalDamage to a negative value.

Yeah I had this idea too, I'm still trying to figure out a way to make it work.

Can I have your babies Mosquill? lol

Great ideas, you really seem to think outside the box on this kinda stuff.

As long as the targeting computer isn't like Battlefront!

I, at least, would want fighters, like all vehicles, to take damage when on fire, so I'd leave the damagewhilecritical at its current value (and fix the bug that keeps the TIE Defender and bike, and perhaps a couple other vehicles too, from taking damage when burning)
