Re: Clone Wars TV Series
I preferred this to the first two, but yeah there are some issues, the Gungans able to survive seemingly indefinitely underwater, when as you mention, aren't they supposed to be amphibian? Same goes for Kit Fisto. Plus, just exactly how much air do the Jedi and Clone Troopers have in their tanks? The water effects were once again quite poorly done as in the quiet scenes there were not much in the way of particulate matter or bubbles floating in the water. And yet in the battle sequence at the end where there was more action there were plenty of bubbles and effects that sell the scenes as being sub aquatic, why the hell didn't they just use these effects but subtler for the other scenes? Also once again the motivations of the characters and political machinations were a little poorly handled here. The Prince appeals to the Quarren to join with them and unite against the Separatists. So what does the Shark General do? Does he try to placate the Quarren, and assure them that together under Separatist rule will be the best course of action for the Quarren people? No, he just exacerbates the situation by telling the Quarren leader he is now their ruler and that they're all his slaves. Smart move. You could argue that the character was just supremely arrogant and that he believed he already had his total victory and that the Quarren and Mon Cal's position was hopeless, but c'mon that was a pretty dumb move playing right into the Prince's hands. Other than that though, there was a lot to enjoy here, I particularly liked electric eel torture devices, and the Shark General's explosive detonator enhanced daggers, they were used to nice effect, especially in the final confrontation, bringing to mind the explosive end of Jaws, fully intentionally I'm sure, a quite grizzly end for a cartoon too.

Also- 'pushing back the water from Padme's head wouldn't have created a bubble of breatheable air' around her head, it would have created a vacuum and her head would have exploded. Furthermore, in the last episode, when Ani puts his helmet on underwater it auto drains the water and replaces it with air. Really Jar jar? You have a superpower now, spitting viscous adhesive water repellent mucus? But really, exploding daggers are awesome, so I'll just latch on to that. I'm just relieved prince Leecher(sponger, moocher?) didn't throw a container of oxygen into the bad guy's mouth and shoot it.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series
The following contains spoilers, do not read if you havent seen the episode yet: Well this season starts bloody awful. Three episodes in a row with Padme and Jar Jar. OK I get it that Naboo is the homeworld for both of these characters but why oh why is it always Padme who is sent to negotiate/get-in-trouble/see wtf is going on and not anyone else? Is it just a plan by Palpatine trying to get her killed or what? dang, like theres no other senators that could be sent to these situations. So apparently the Gungans are rumoured to be allied with the separists and they plan on attacking Theed. Well of course the gungan boss has been manipulated by an eeeeevul gungan and naturally Anakin, Padme and Jar Jar are there to solve this matter. What is strange to me, why would the confederacy want to attack Naboo? What would they gain from capturing this planet? The Droid army on Naboo is lead by someone who I thought was bloody damn time to make some screentime at last, General Grievous. The episode became far better all of a sudden, dont you think? Despite my ranting of the character set-up, I think this was a better episode than the MonCal episodes. I kinda liked the grim feeling of it in the very certain moment when we lose a character we see for the first time in the series and for the first time ever since TPM. Episode got better towards the end, I admit. Altho I must also admit I did not think that the prisoner exchange would have happened within the same episode. I think that there could have been an interesting scenario in which both sides send their specialists to rescue their own from the clutches of the other. But why waste an episode or two to an interesting (yet somewhat done) scenario when you can have more Padme episodes instead?

I think the answer to that question is simply that by taking the home world of the supreme chancellor, you deliver a very clear message that everyone in the republic is vulnerable. And it also makes the supreme chancellor look pretty weak. I have to say I enjoyed this episode a fair bit, for a clone wars episode. 7/10 The Pros: + Jar Jar was actually entertaining, they have really learnt how to write him now without him feeling like he is in the way. The chair scene was great. + We saw a bongo (I'm sure other people lamented their exclusion from the previous arc) + We got to briefly hear movie music in the bongo scene, which was nice. + Tarples sacrifice + Padme was kept to a minimum. + Rish Loo was an interesting character. The Cons: - This should have been a two parter, too many plot points existed here and once again we missed the opportunity to have a proper opening to the story. You could even argue it should have been a three parter, about the decision on whether or not to trade Anakin for grievous and the aftermath of this decision, but this may be unnecessary. - The ease of capturing Anakin; surely if the Seppies could get the hero of the Republic that easily he would already be in some jail, kind of like the Separatist council... - The Gungans are attacking the Naboo why? - Why does Padme have the right to trade Grievous for anakin? Can you imagine if someone in a Pakistan had captured Osama bin Laden and the provincial leader had let him go. - Grievous should have taken more Gungans down. I only want a few more, enough to see that Tarples sacrifice, was to save his men. - Ground textures. Last time I saw a video game with single colour grass texture was on an Atari, modern pre-rendered footage has no excuse. Even in the 8 bit era we had rudimentary grass textures.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series
Just watched this myself, pretty cracking episode, nice mood to it, interesting plot etc, agree with pretty much everything that has already been said, could easily have gone on to be a two parter, I'd have rather the opening Mon Cal story had been a two parter and that arc's third episode could have been donated to this one. Also like how it was a little like Return of the Jedi in that an underated species ends up getting the better of a far superior foe, really good action sequence that, and the Anakin take down was pretty good too, but agree it was perhaps a little too easy in both cases for these heroes of both factions to be taken down. That said Anakin was facing off against numerous Magna Guard droids which were supposed to be designed specifically to take down Jedi, so if anyone could take Anakin it would be Dooku and a pack of those guys. Also as you mention, Jar Jar was really well written for in this episode, not coming off as annoying at all which is a feat in itself. Jar Jar sitting across from General Grevious over a conference table, the chair schtick, all of it was genius. This was a really good episode, and I hope the rest of the season follows this path.

Re: Clone Wars TV Series
The Aleena are actually from the movies; they appeared in all three prequels and in RoTS we actually see the planet briefly. The episode was a bit odd, that aside I think it was the best this season. It was nice to see a clone commander other than Cody and Rex, having a large part. Commander Wolffe also seems to want to be the next David curoso, with the way he kept taking his helemt off .
