Re: The Future of Star Wars?
My closest IMAX is a 2 hour drive away (why aren't they everywhere yet????), and it's independently owned so of course their website is a mess. I'm headed down there next week to see the new Bond film and see if the place is good enough to make the journey for a midnight showing.
I'm wondering about seeing in in 3D or not. So far I've yet to be impressed by anything that's 3D and often end up with a headache.
I've done my best to avoid anything about the film so far. I saw the very first trailer but haven't seen anything since. Unfortunately with the internet it's impossible to avoid all spoilers about something like this so I'm not as clueless as I'd like
Although I'm really excited I'm also a bit worried for it. Abrahms Star Trek films were good and fun, but they were even less trek-like than Nemesis. At least he's actually seen a Star Wars film and says he's a fan this time though. I'm going in with lowish expectations and ready for disappointment (I know my heart will be broken at the abandonment of the previous lore ) and I'm almost completely unaware of what's what and who's who. Going in expecting not much means I'm pretty much be pleasantly surprised and really enjoying the film
Although I'm super sad at the loss of the old lore (no Thrawn and build up of the new jedi order which is sad, but no C'boath and ridiculous palpatine clones and endless superweapons so that's fine), I finally bit the bullet and started on some of the new novels and am quite enjoying them. From what I've read so far they are surprisingly good, and I'm kinda glad that they don't have to work around the true junk that existed in legends cannon. I'd like to see some of the awesome Legends stuff be reworked into the new canon, we'll see what the state of the EU is like in 10 years
One thing I'm sad about though is the utterly ridiculous MLC-3 Tank SURVIVED the Disney wipe! Somewhat, at least. Good lord it's the stupidest thing ever (though a lot better with the pilot not being exposed), I can't believe that it's still going and being used in other Star Wars products. I just hope it doesn't make it's way into Rebels and gets properly canonised! In saying that, Rebels made the APC toy look not-dumb so maybe they can rescue this dinky thing too
