Re: The Future of Star Wars?

My closest IMAX is a 2 hour drive away (why aren't they everywhere yet????), and it's independently owned so of course their website is a mess.  I'm headed down there next week to see the new Bond film and see if the place is good enough to make the journey for a midnight showing.

I'm wondering about seeing in in 3D or not. So far I've yet to be impressed by anything that's 3D and often end up with a headache.

I've done my best to avoid anything about the film so far. I saw the very first trailer but haven't seen anything since. Unfortunately with the internet it's impossible to avoid all spoilers about something like this so I'm not as clueless as I'd like sad

Although I'm really excited I'm also a bit worried for it. Abrahms Star Trek films were good and fun, but they were even less trek-like than Nemesis.  At least he's actually seen a Star Wars film and says he's a fan this time though.  I'm going in with lowish expectations and ready for disappointment (I know my heart will be broken at the abandonment of the previous lore sad ) and I'm almost completely unaware of what's what and who's who. Going in expecting not much means I'm pretty much be pleasantly surprised and really enjoying the film tongue

Although I'm super sad at the loss of the old lore (no Thrawn and build up of the new jedi order which is sad, but no C'boath and ridiculous palpatine clones and endless superweapons so that's fine), I finally bit the bullet and started on some of the new novels and am quite enjoying them. From what I've read so far they are surprisingly good, and I'm kinda glad that they don't have to work around the true junk that existed in legends cannon.   I'd like to see some of the awesome Legends stuff be reworked into the new canon, we'll see what the state of the EU is like in 10 years tongue

One thing I'm sad about though is the utterly ridiculous MLC-3 Tank SURVIVED the Disney wipe! Somewhat, at least.  Good lord it's the stupidest thing ever (though a lot better with the pilot not being exposed), I can't believe that it's still going and being used in other Star Wars products. I just hope it doesn't make it's way into Rebels and gets properly canonised! In saying that, Rebels made the APC toy look not-dumb so maybe they can rescue this dinky thing too tongue

Check out this supercut of all the trailers in case you haven't seen it already:

Well from the look of everything we have seen so far this not only looks great, but seems to hitting all the right emotional beats too, the dialogue also sounds like how people should talk rather than wooden pick up lines involving how coarse sand is.

lol

Still a bit disappointed that they have gone with another Death Star type ultimate peril maguffin, rather than something more original and new, but anyone notice the Death Star like trench in that snow planet aerial battle shot? Wouldn't it be awesome if they hid the construction of their new Death Star (AKA Starkiller Base, name of the base, the super weapon, or both?) within what appeared to be a normal planet? A little heavy seismic activity to shake off the thin disguising crust of rock, snow and ice and you're soon in business with your shiny new battle-station super weapon. That would a sequence I'd pay good money to see.

Well to be honest everything I've seen on this movie so far I'd pay good money to see, repeatedly.

cool

More later, have been a bit busy with work of late, so hard to find the time to post my detailed thoughts and insights on this, will endeavour to do so soon.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

LOVE these!

I'm just wondering what the heck happened to Han's nose, though. Looks like a bad Photoshop job. lol

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

Heh, yeah that does look a little weird now you mention it.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

I like how they're trying to fool us that Finn is the new Jedi/Luke but are still making it obvious that Rey is the new Jedi/Luke

Prediction for opening act based on ESB dialogue further down smile. It includes my guess on a relationship between 2 chars so if you're very sensitive to a potential spoiler (if you can call it that) squint your eyes and just scroll past the rest of my post. I've turned the font grey (spoiler tag not working) so it doesn't show up that badly   - you're missing out on my cracking humour tho! wink

Rey: Han, old daddy (or uncle), do you read me?

Han Solo: Loud and clear, my kid (or my brother in law's kid). What's up?

Rey: Well, I finished my circle. I don't pick up any Falcon readings.

Han Solo: There isn't enough Falcon on this dust ball to fit through a poorly thought out thermal exhaust port . Sensors are useless. I'm going back.

Rey: Right. I'll see you shortly. There's a TIE Fighter that hit the ground near here. I want to check it out. It won't take long.
