Topic: Battlefront 2

Well a short trailer leaked (it has been taken down as far as I know).

I really did not like the first game but what they've shown has piqued my interest some.

A campaign which will seemingly focus on (at least in part---perhaps they will go with a BF1 style war stories format) some kind of elite imperial pilot after the destruction of the second Death Star sounds interesting to me. Her ship seems to be a newly canonized imperial cruiser which looks cool. Hopefully they canonize some Rebel/Resistance ground vehicles too!

The game is set to have content from all 3 eras which is exciting as it will provide at least some level of variety, mostly in the Clone War period (droids, cool vehicles). There will be space battles from each era by the looks of things if you are into that...if the ships handle the same as they did in the first one I will be skipping those.

Some of the confirmed maps:
Endor
Takodana
Starkiller Base
Theed
Hoth

One scene which may be from the campaign shows a Rebel ramming a snowtrooper with his Taun Taun. What is interesting to me here is that it would seem weird to have a Taun Taun powerup---so I am really really hoping they may have done away with the vehicle spawning system from the first game.

My personal wishlist:
Classes
No more star cards
No more floaty icon powerups of any kind
Full Squads
Crewed vehicles
Jump in/jump out of vehicles
Team support tools (medkits, revives, repairs, resupplies)
Better flight controls
Less bunny hopping/rolling
Choosing where to spawn
Less one-shot kill weapons
Weaker heroes

I realize most of my wishlist is not going to happen but really if the minute to minute gameplay is fun, I may not want all of those things. I don't expect that they either are brave enough nor see the need to rewrite the whole script. A man can dream.

I'm cautiously optimistic. We'll find out more this week. I'll definitely try the open beta if they have one. I really hope this is a Star Wars game I can enjoy. It has been a long time---GC and FS aside.

Re: Battlefront 2

With you 100% there. I'm hoping for what it COULD be, but not getting too excited.

Re: Battlefront 2

Alright, I'm starting to get hyped now. *shakes fist at EA*

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017- … -dark-side

"Four Trooper classes have been introduced for Battlefront 2, each with its own customisation and progression systems, plus a number of cosmetic character types the Rebel Fighter, Imperial Officer, Stormtrooper and Federation Droid. The classes are based on relatively conventional differentiating factors, like range or firepower."

Sounds good to me. If there are classes, then there is no real need for pickup items everywhere it would seem! If there are classes, that means each class should have specialized gadgets. Good. This doesn't confirm repairs, heals, or resupplies, but it certainly would make sense.

"While EA remained tight lipped about the specifics, the way you acquire heroes and vehicles will no longer rely on randomly spawning pickups. Instead, the ability to change into a hero or board a vehicle will revolve around some kind of resource-based system."

This also sounds much better---though details are slim. Please give us crewed vehicles (where vehicle design allows) and the ability to enter/exit them at will! The latter part being likely if they are giving us rideable animals like Taun Tauns (which they were sure to show a Rebel firing his pistol while riding---They will no doubt play a lot like the horses from Battlefield 1). You have to be able to jump off them when the need arises.

"Like the Trooper classes and hero characters, vehicles can also be customised with new abilities, gadgets and modifications available to unlock through the aforementioned resource system."

This part sounds a little strange and I wonder if Eurogamer got this right.

Confirmed locations:
-Hoth (at dawn or dusk---I hope they include a version that has the classic time of day)
-Theed
-Yavin
-Mos Eisley (most likely SP, but why not use those assets for a MP map too?)
-Kamino (probably featuring ObiWan and Jango Fett given that both their ships appear)
-Starkiller Base
-Vardos (SP for sure, MP?)
-Takodana
-Endor
-One scene with Luke Skywalker shows a strange looking planet with glassy hardened lava flows. Maybe Sullust but I don't think so. This is clearly taken from the SP campaign but perhaps there will be a MP map as well.
-Jakku
-Space maps (an imperial shipyard appears to be one, we can expect some from the clone war era as well)

So, overall, lots of content, some good changes made, rumors that there may not be a season pass at all, what looks to be a decent little single player element, and each era represented... Here's hoping it plays well and they just might get my ~$90 Canadian dollars (ouch) on Nov 17. I imagine they will have an open beta a month or more before release.

It looks like the resource system will be something each player earns for himself as he plays and then can spend it on spawning a vehicle/hero. Not sure if I like....what that would mean for crewed vehicles I don't know but it seems like it would be weird to share an earned vehicle with other players, not to mention potentially having that vehicle stolen from you if you get out. hmm If that is a concern for them, they simply will not allow crewed vehicles, guaranteed. I could see them making Battle Packs of sorts that you can purchase that give you these resource points.

The video mentions the devs have said they are doing both overheating and reloading "sort of" so that gives room for ammo resupply in the game which is nice.

You cant land or take off in vehicles. They "didn't see the point." Really? What about for Republic gunships?

Apparently you will spawn in to a vehicle and remain in it until you die. So no entering/exiting vehicles at will from the sounds of it, just as expected.

Also it is confirmed the 1 2 3 button ability system is still in the game. I found that intensely awkward to use. I had to let go of one or more WASD keys in order to throw a grenade for example. I would prefer pressing the number to select an ability, then using mouse 1 or whatever to use it. Not a huge deal though.

ADS and hip fire will be different so that should serve to slow the gunfights down a little bit which sounds good. The shooting is still meant to be "accessible" and "easy to learn" but "more difficult to master." You know, for all of the dumbing down they did so children could play the first one, there sure are a lot of rolling, shielded, one-shotting players around. Speaking of rolling, that is back too.

No partner system or squad system...what in the world? They have something "new" instead.

So far this is reminding me of how it happened with the last game. First they wowed me with some initial details that sound great, then as the days/weeks/months roll by more and more awful game design choices come to light.

So far the pros are:
-A single player story campaign
-All 3 eras represented
-No more pickups
-Class system
-Lots of maps
-Space Battles
-More land vehicles (apparently)
-No double price season pass (but what are they replacing it with?)

The cons:
-No squads
-No entering/exiting vehicles (aside from maybe a few cases here and there)
-Rolling (when I think of Star Wars I definitely think of Han, Luke, and Leia rolling all over the place)
-If there are crewed vehicles it will be really limited. I expect things like the gunships to behave like the U-Wings from the Scarif DLC or the AC130 gunship from BF4...basically a pre-programmed flight path and turrets you can spawn into)
-No landing or taking off (this means no space boarding in the space maps)

Trying not to be too pessimistic though, negative guy that I tend to be. I'll give the beta a shot.

Re: Battlefront 2

TalonUK and I have been playing some Battlefront on PC pretty much every night and I must say, it has grown on me. It really isn't too bad. The sequel ought to be an improvement so I have bought 2 tickets to the hype train.

Re: Battlefront 2

Wanted to chime in after playing the alpha and the beta so far:

Like Battlefront 2015, I'm pretty disappointed with this game. Maybe I'm biased because I came from the old Battlefield mods like Galactic Conquest and First Strike that had multi-crew vehicles, boarding, squad spawns, and classes that actually felt different from one another, but these new Battlefront games lack any semblance of depth or teamplay.

I just don't understand why in 2017 we've taken such huge leaps backwards in gameplay options or opportunities. I mean, we had more options in Battlefield 1942 Star Wars mods than I do in these new shallow Battlefront games.

Want to get a team together? Nope, there is no squad system, no multi-crew vehicles, no spawn points.

Want to be a support character and help heal squad mates, provide ammo, fix vehicles? Nope, there are no vehicles to heal, no medic class, and no engineer to provide ammo because every gun has infinite ammo.

Want to board a capital ship and take it down from the inside? Nope, all you get is fighter v fighter battles.

Want to coordinate with your teammates to take a point on the map? Nope, we give you random spawns with no way of knowing where the hell you'll end up.

Don't even get me started on the loot crates. They're very much a pay-to-win gambling system that adds absolutely nothing to do the gameplay.
All these games provide is flashy graphics. This was my most anticipated game of 2017, and the Beta has left me feeling shallow. Thanks again Dice!
