I was watching teh star wars movies...again...and they got me wondering about something. I noticed that teh blasers in IV to VI are not very fast firing at all. They seem to look like shot single shot, but very powerful, in a fashion that reminds me alot of an M1 garand. Yet in games like battlefront (which I happen to hate) the assualt blasters fire at a crazy rate, and are much weeker than they appear to be in teh movies. So my question is whats First Strike's stance on this? Neither way is really bad, just different. GC had very fast firing weapons too now that I think of it. How would you guys preffer it?

I absolutely agree with you on both how battlefront sucks and got it completely wrong, and how the original movies portrayed lasers.

I think a firing rate of 500 max for auto is best, with single shot modes as well. One of the biggest things is that it should only take about 3 bolts to the torso to kill somebody, like in galactic conquest.

If possible, it should have that distinctive, loud sound, and a large explosion once it hits a wall or something.

I have personally edited guns to fire tank rounds or APC rounds, it is very easy, you just change one number in the code.

That means if we get some kind of cool laser sized explosion, its relatively easy to make it do that every time it hits a wall or person.

Of course, there is no splash damage, the explosions would be like in the movie, strictly for show basically and to make it look and feel cooler. Of course, it could make your vision go blurry if a shot hits near you, just like real life.

The stormtroopers seem to have less rapid firing guns than clones and droids, but they are much more powerful from the looks of it.

Well these weapons aren't as fictional as you may think. Lasers are now becoming part of our every day life.

As i said in another thread, starwars lasers are not actually lasers. They are plasma from super heated tibana gas. The four known stages of elements go: solid, liquid, gas, plasma. So it actually is a projectile and not just coherent light from a tube of helium and neon.

Re: Rate of Fire

Right. Well I hate to bring up a semi dead thread, but I got to wondering if there where any ideas on adjusting the rate of fire for fighter craft? I know that the x wing for example had multiple firing patterns the pilot could use, single fire that fired very fast, dual linked fire (where two of his lasers would fire at once, then the other two) which is slower, then all four at once, which is the slowest. I'm not really sure if its all that important, but I was wondering even if the firing rate isn't changeable what is the rate it shoots at? I've always liked the dual, but then again nothing beats the feeling of sinking all four lasers into the middle of a tie... wink

Re: Rate of Fire

Could a fighters laser be switched like a gun can be switched from semi-auto to full auto?

If that doesn't work maybe make the way the x-wing fires like in Rogue Squadron, where if you waited to fire all four lasers would fire at once. In GC they had the B-wing fire its ion cannon only at the first few shots so maybe something like that can be done.

True. True. lol

Hi Arc!

Speaking of the difference in power. Would there be a way to make single shot more powerful? Like if you hold down fire on single it will charge up? Just a thought.

That could be a possibilty for a weapon or 2 .
