Topic: Battle All Around

In the Battlefield Series the battles have always been constricted to a small section of map and the area outside has always been empty and action less. In other fps's like COD2 battle is going on everywhere. So can the team implement this? For instance, in space while the battle is going on inside the boundaries of the map, if a player was to look on into this abyss he would see other capital ships fighting and small snub fighters having dogfights. This was done in Battlefront 2, but for those of us who have played it will know that it was very simple and disappointing. Another example, on Yavin 4 (imps invading after Death Star destruction). Have fighters and landing craft flying overhead going back and forth around the battle. On the ground the occasional liftoff of a transport in the trees. I don't know about lag, but it would add something extra to the fight to see other AI troops on Hoth shooting in trenches farther away, while you are trying to defend your stretch of trench.

Re: Battle All Around

Well, GC had correlian cruisers (and I think SDs) hovering over land maps, which I think would be pretty cool in FS, especially if in some maps they could pummel the ground, and force those battling down below to stay low and in cover, and hope a blast dosn't fry em. Something like that, or having non player or commander controled tie bombers dive down randomly and pummel teh ground with charges in the same fashion. Would be freaking awsome in a demolished city map.
But as for space, (and I have no idea about lag, or how any of that works) I don't know if background combat would be such a good idea. First off, it might deplete the feeling of importance you have when your fighting the battle. After all, while your team may be getting their arses kicked, with your ships depleted and fighters blown away, it might be kinda odd to see an imperial fleet just a bit away holding their own, and not aiding you.

How much lag could it be to just see a few turrets further away firing at a group of continually looping AT-ST's attacking? Obviously I have no experience in such things, but if it isn't much I'd say it would add to the battle.

your talking about animated backgrounds i believe which well no idea

Re: Battle All Around

animated backrounds? I don't think thats what he's talking about. He is saying make a turret shoot at a never ending loop of ATSTs spawning off map. That = LAGGGGG!!!!!!

I have always thought BF2 was the best example of an entire battlfield. You and the other people, represent the entire battle. Thats why most people love the Battlefield type of gameplay.

Re: Battle All Around

well the flying hips in the GC map didnt case any lag. only when i played with a pc that was UNDER the minimum spec for bf42 itself.
so i dont see why lag would be a problem. only if your still playing under the spec. (then you shouldnt even complain about lagg)

i forgot the name of the fighters and the map, but it was the spaceport map
