I think you do stop in SW space. SW ships have a maximum speed, and don't keep going faster. They essentially have the physics of a car.

They have the physics of unstallable VTOLs.

Yeah, you solve the "stopped camping fighter" problem by the simple fact that such a fighter makes a great target - not by making stopping a fighter impossible.
