Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

Maybe the rescuing pilot would have to position himself just below and, after looking down and making sure it's safe the stranded person could press E twice.
(The escape module's enter/exit area could be made very small, with no delay)

It would seem a natural position to the players, and would provide some entertainment should their aim/timing be a little off. tongue

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

I like Reds idea.

Btw surviving in space is lore accurate, look at the tions of books and not to mention Jerkins in ANH.

That sounds too difficult to perform. We want the collection manouver to be quick enough to make it viable. If it takes too long, it'll be a waste of time, as you'll get shot. Also, if you miss, the person will be freefalling, which is unrealistic.

Also, another problem. Some weeks back it was "agreed" (I lose the therm loosely) that you could only enter transport ships by going up their boarding ramps, and hitting E at the top (to increase realism). This doesn't fit with CAAM's suggestion.

Ok, radical suggestion: You know how pods explode when they hit something? Could it be coded so when the pods explode, E is automatically pressed and the player boards anything he's touching.

Essentially you'd simply fly into the escape pods, and they would board.

Well I think the escape pod should be a seat btw, could we animate it with the cap flying off the plane? That'd be neat!

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

I forgot to mention, ships with ejection seats would include (by lore) X-Wings, Y-Wings, A-Wings, B-Wings, and TIE Bombers.

TIE Interceptors and TIE Fighters do not have ejection seats.  While that doesn't mean you can't simply bail out of your craft, you just can't use the eject function unless your craft has an ejection seat.

Also, the ejection system would work the same in space maps as well as ground maps.

And finally, on a side note, certain capital ships may or may not be allocated several escape pods which would function quite diferently than fighter ejection systems.

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

Funny, graphic novels seem to dispute that for the Fighters - its more realistic ("realistic to SW") to say that in general they didn't but in some squadrons they did. Interceptors were later equipped with shields too, which again suggests such features as ejector seats might be added in.

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

Wookiepedia says TIE fighters sport ejector seats, but I think it'd be neat not to have it in.

It is more logical seeing as they didn't have shields and were destroyed by a glancing hit anyway.
