Re: Your thoughts on in-game advertisements

The internet hasn't been around for long. Most of us here grew up without instant google searches. Phone directory - I'll give you that. Ask someone you know - so how do they know?

Learned it when you were little - general knowledge among children/teenagers is dropping like a stone. Many 18 year olds think their greatest cost will be their mobile phone bills - they know nothing of rent, insurance, etc. While some of us are learned beyond their years (myself included), knowledge of important things - how to manage your money, for instance, is seriously lacking.

In general, i despise advertising , whether that be in games , movies  or TV. If i want car insurance , a new mobile phone or a drink I'll go out and get them.

How do you know who provides car insurance if you've never seen an advert? How do you even know what it is?

I dont think you get me. Im talkin about adverts in games , movies and TV ...TV meaning TV programs. I dont have a problem having programs split up by advert breaks if that channel doesnt charge as much as the channel/s that dont have adverts . I dont have a problem with car magazines havin tons of insurance ads. In fact , id go out and get the magazine for that reason.

How many movies and TV programs have been obvious adverts for some mobile phone company? , Pepsi? etc etc

Waynes World 2 was a complete joke in this respect. As is BF2142 when it comes to games.

Iv said it before , and il say it again. I would not have bought BF2142 if i wasnt making FirstStrike. 80% of the reason is down to the advertisement/price.

Re: Your thoughts on in-game advertisements

The price argument is a very good one. If advertisements helped pay for the games so prices would drop from $50, I'd have less of a problem with it. When they still cost $50, though, doesn't that somehow defeat the purpose?

Re: Your thoughts on in-game advertisements

THey're fine with my as long as they don't take my mind off the game.  Maybe plug it in at the loading screen or something.

Re: Your thoughts on in-game advertisements

After further reading other forums, I have something to say. Be VERY lucky how EA has included advertisements. Have you see screen shots of CounterStrike 1.6 ad beta?! I mean the way Valve has done it totally takes away from the game. Check this out:

Now although a lot of us are against advertisements period, at least EA isn't messing us (conducting it like this) over as much as that (although I guess they could release another booster pack when  it should be a patch).

Edit, image doesn't work, see URL below (it's a link).

Re: Your thoughts on in-game advertisements

I have a very nasty feeling ads are there to stay, in increasing frequency.

How long until you have to watch at least one commercial between every round of Battlefield? I shudder to think.
