Re: New map layout, With detailed picture.

Looks like a better version of Battlefront 1's Kashyyk Islands.  Looks like it would be fun, especially with good foliage and such.

Re: New map layout, With detailed picture.

This reminds me of GC's mini cove map. Which is a very good thing, cause that was my favorite map. I think the feeling of the impending storm would add alot to it too.

Re: New map layout, With detailed picture.

I like the map idea, though I think it'd be better to have it take place on Mon Calamari and have the island be occupied by the Mon Calamarians.

I really like the impending storm idea. It'll do a lot for the atmosphere.

What the problem will be is that on island maps, players are free to land where-ever they wish. It's not easy to force players to land at specific locations without making the restrictions too obvious (for example by barring all but the landing zones with cliffs). It's hard to defend an island when the attackers can land anyplace.

Perhaps if there was a radar network that saw where ships landed, and the Rebels had minor fortresses scattered about and fast vehicles to move infantry to them with. Or if the Rebels had swoop bikes so they could patrol the shores and spot landings.

I think instead of turrets, as said, there should be fortresses along the shoreline, about 50-100 metres in-land. These fortresses would be little more than a few low walls, a bunker or two, and some E-Web emplacements and turrets. When the Imperials land, the Alliance can rally the necessary number of squads to the nearest fortress and attack the island from there.

I'm not sure about these fortresses being control points, but I think their firing ranges should almost reach each other so that you can't simply run past them if they're fully manned. Perhaps the Empire could have an artillery ship or two of some kind (maybe a couple of Firehawkes or MIAU hover artillery platforms? For details on them, download the manual for "that other mod").

Also, I think it'd be an idea to give the Mon Calamari underground tunnels with which to get easily from fortress to fortress. Maybe there could be tram on rails, too, to get really quickly to where you are needed.

And yes, lots of foliage and trees is a must, then open ground in and around control points.

Sorry if I'm being annoying tearing your map apart like this. I'm only doing it because I like the idea.

Just thought I should mention that the post is a year old, I think that guy is gone now.

Stop riding his cse for bringing up old threads, if you like the idea, why not reply?

Anyways,

I like the idea too but, I think it would be better with trenches instead of tunnels, that way the guys aren't actually popping out of the ground you know? and they can see around as they move from fortress to fortress.

As for looking around, you could have periscopes, cameras, etc. on the surface, accessible from underground, but I suppose so.

Hey guys, im back again after buying 2142. I thought this mod died when the site went down a while abck but looks like I was wrong! (thank hamsters!). Anyways no im not annoyd by you picking the map apart, thats how things get better! I like a few of your ideas you brought up. Foliage would be great, but I like the open ness of the map too. Perhaps a couple control points can be located in a forested part of the island, while teh rest are ipen (with ofcourse rocks and some trees still around). I like your idea on fortress type defence too.  Rather than just placing random turrets around we could have small trenches or fortresses with turret like defences on them, that way the defence can use the bunkers and trenches as cover.

Also I desighnd the island so that it had only a few key landing zones that would work. Much of it is cliffs and whatnot. I wanted to make it so its a little easier to defend, but also diverse enough for the enemy so they can try different approaches if one way doesnt work. The high cliffs will serve as a nice spot for snipers who would like to pick off oncoming boats. They would also serve as a good lookout point to see where they are coming from.  I wouldnt really like teh artilarry idea too much, as it would take away from teh person on person land/sea fight that this map is ment to put forth.  I would also prefer the island to be big enough to fight on, but small enough so you dont need tram rails. This is ment to be a small low defence island since it is a covert mining opperation, not like a city or anything. Perhaps the alliance can have some transport vehicles that they use to get from place to place. As well as some low armor fighting defence vehicles.

THe underground tunnles thing might make some sense, but I dont like the idea because it would take away from teh surface battle, and guys popping out of the ground everywhere would make things more complicated then it should be. Perhaps one of the control points can be an underground mining cave though.  Anyways thanks for your input everyone! If you guys are ever looking for another map to make feel free to use my idea!

Also remember the whole oncoming storm ambiance deal! That will give this map the perfect touch!

Edit: Image seems to have dissapeard from imageshack, luckely I had a copy in photobucket. Here is the pic for thouse of you who are interested in the idea.
