Wow, this topic went off track real quick. Anyway, just to help keep it off track...

That Hovercraft isn't exactly the same thing as the Hovertanks in BF2142 now is it? The hovercraft uses a cushion of compressed air within the skirt to keep it afloat and propel it across land or sea with relative ease, forgive any innacuracies in my real world science, couldn't be arsed to go and grab some indepth technical specs on how a real hovercraft works, but you get the general idea.

Anyhow, the Hovertanks in BF2142 are a totally different animal using some sort of electromagnetic forcefield to levitate the vehicle above the ground. Now it could be that this forcefield requires an equal force to push against to levitate it's load, if this is the case then it may well sink if there isn't a solid enough mass beneath it to sustain floatation, such as water. Then again this could all be completely hamster furballs as the tech doesn't actually exist yet (Or does it?
) and anything said can only be speculation based on the laws of physics as we know them.
