Topic: Battle Scale

I read earlier that the mod will make battles more central because of how you place objectives, and it will be fun intense battles.

You guys have been working with smaller groups of people, and not 64 player servers. Will maps that are fun with 20 people turn into clusterF's with 64 people? I HATE 2142 maps where you have roughly 1000 people in one spot and you cant even get a shot at a target before somebody jacks you.

I also like to take advantage of all the ADHD ridden online players that run to the front and just start shooting by sneaking our squad behind and capping their base from the back (Karkand, anyone?) Then you have intense battles rotating around how YOU turned the battle. So is there going to be any advantage to a little bit of stealth? Or is it just going to be "one single epic battle" in the middle of the map, or around the objective?

Im just curious how this has been balanced.

As far as I know the battles will be concentrated around certain areas, but why wouldn't you be able to go stealth? If you find a way around them you can take out quite a bunch of enemies.

Well, I'm no tester, but if it's concentrated like in RO, it should be something like that.

Re: Battle Scale

There is no stealth... its just LAZOR LAZOR LAZOR!

hehe. The amount of stealth availible varies from map to map of course. Some are bigger than others have more cover spread the battle our a little more... Stuff like that.

Re: Battle Scale

Some of our ground maps have a push style gameplay meaning that the attacking force has to capture the flags in a specific order and can't just run to the other side of the map and cap a back flag.

Re: Battle Scale

I sincerely hope this mod won't allow a single player to sneak past everyone else and capture rear flags. It ruins the dynamics of the maps. I prefer Push mode and/or a requirement to have more than one soldier near a flag to capture it.

Re: Battle Scale

I didn't say a "single player" would run behind and cap, i was saying our squad.

The push style and other modes will still allow you to get a squad behind the lines to disrupt supplies and sabotage stuff, right? Are there additional paths through points, or is it just head on into the fray and hope you make it out alive?

Safe-Keeper, running head on into the other army isn't strategy, its whoever has the biggest e-peen. All throughout history, the commanders we remember don't have superior forces, they win through strategy, an FPS with no strategy is a retarded deathmatch...

I guess Im just anticipating this mod WAY too much and keep speculating on it. I need to shutup and just wait big_smile

Re: Battle Scale

It's not realy the maps that Focus the battle. Granted alot of design has been put into teh maps for natural choke points, but you are not Railroaded down specific avenues of attack.

Flanking is most certainly an a more advanced manouver and can turn the tide of battles.

but if you read the withering fire carefully, it's our kit items etc that realy Naturaly and subconcisouly make teams gravitate towards each other, as you can use a vareity of short range UAV devices, that, naturaly allow for better ambushing and strategy and draw the players together. However don;t think that with all the UAV's theres no where to hide.

The UAV devices are generaly Short range, there often Squad bonuses, and we have removed netbat so you can not see enemy units through walls. (friendly netbat is in place to help you find your team mates) but the most you see of an enemy is on teh minimap, so even then it's not a precise "i know where you are" scenario.

Snipers don't fear, if you go out of your way from the battle to find a perch or prone position to do some long range shooting, theres no commander to use a full map scan and spot you then arty you smile

because the UAV's are short range the chances of you being picked up on radar (if your out of the way) are much much less, giving you more ability to remain hidden (but it's not a guarentee wink )

we basicaly have a nice diverese way of playing the game, it's just you tend to be and want to be in the thick of the action, fighting for the flag. and your much better off doing it in a squad.

oh and i'm not spoiling anything but there are some realy cool stuff that is strictly Squad only, so loners don't get them wink
