Topic: Space speed...

First off, I want to say that I love the mod.  Both space and ground.  The devs have done a great job with it, and I don't want them to think they haven't.

However, does anyone feel like the speed of the space game is a bit slow?

I've played Xwing series, Xwing vs. Tie Fighter, Xwing Alliance, and Jump To Lightspeed (SWG).  I realize that the space in this mod is NOT those games.  However the speed of the combat for the flying is just a little on the slow side.  XvT, which was/is a great multiplayer game, is faster then this game.

Some other things that would be great to impliment woudl be some of the stuff from XvT and JTL.  Things like Weapons/Shields/Engine output control.  I know we don't have overheating, but little tweaks like this could really make the space game take off.  Different flight characteristics between the ships.  So far, atleast to me, it seems like the fighters all turn at about the same rate.  Exception being the Tie Bomber...?  In XvT/XWA you had 1/3 throttle for best turning speed.  Ships performed differently, but all had best turn rates at 1/3 throttle.  In dogfighting, being able to adjust your throttle for maximum effectiveness is crucial to surviving the fight.  If someone gets behind you its' hard to lose them and hard to see where they're at.  Which leads me to my next part.

The radar in space.  Makes no sense to me.  I still need to learn it I admit, but it is very complicated and doesn't seem to adjust well to the 3d environment that space is.  On the ground, that radar works great, but in space, it's wierd.

Still, I will keep playing and enjoying the game.  I just wanted to throw these thoughts out for future updates to the mod.

I agree with the speed idea. I do think we need to speed things up. And yes, I too have played the X-Wing Series, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter Series, Tie Fighter Series, and B-Wings Series. All great fun games. Maybe we could implement a 3D Radar, like in Star Wars Rouge Squadren Series

I'm not so sure that the speed in space is slow vs. being in space in a cockpit without passing many stationary objects so it seems slow. When you change your view out of cockpit, and fly by something stationary it seems like you are flying fast, and when coming head on to another fighter you have almost no time to break off so you don't collide.

I didn't play any of the other SW space games, so I may be off base without the comparisons, but when im approching something that is less than 500m off I am on top of it real fast. When I am 2000 m + it seems like I might be going slow, but I assume it just feels that way because I am so far away from the target.

I think the speed is about right on, as the battles seem really good.  If it were much faster I think the dog fighting would not be near as much fun.

I am curious to see the speeds near solid ground.  I have been trying to get the editor to play nice with FS, but no luck.  I would really like to make a map like the old GC Canyon map or the GC Tat map that was a bunch of flags in the desert.  The canyons map would be great to see how the X wing and Tie fighter are close to the ground and in the slot canyons.   It may not be as "realistic" of an idea as the maps in the mod, but it would be a blast I think.

When speed is increased, the maneuvering is also increased, and there is no way around it. So the speeds will probably stay exactly the same....

And just FYI, the fighters are VERY VERY fast, they seem slower because you have no REAL objects to base them off of.

If you want to get a feel for how fast they're going, think about this, a Gallofree Transport is around 100+ feet long.
