The fact of the matter is, I am pretty sure, all most people want is to have the reassurance of having a few hundred extra shots they can use, regardless of whether it is accurate to the movies or not.
In the real world, actually I think someone said it was no real world just AFK, all the 1st world armies of the world, the grunts carry a huge amount of ammunition, so much it would be to much for a normal person to carry alone.
Then we are not talking about the need for reloading, but about how much ammo you carry.
If they wanted to they could just increase that amount without any need for reloading.
There are many intances in the books, and comics where they talk about and show a person reloading their blaster mid combat. It did not pop up in the movies becuase they were mock ups of old WW2 weapons, and all of them were glued togather so realistic reloading was out of the question.
In the Republic commando games you also have to reload your weapons, you also reload your weapons in SWBF/SWBF2, and you will in the PSP exclusive game too. It was something Lucas has admited he wanted to do but it would of made the fight sceens way too close tor real life and nobody wan'ted to see a hero get cought out in the open with one shot left in his power pack.
In the books they talk alot about the iner workings of blasters and how you do have to reload them but not often as they are meant to last a while. A good power pack will last you a few days at most in light use, but in heavy combat your going to have to reload alot faster and you need too keep your power packs charged. They are re useable.
So if you wan't the devs could make it so you only have to change out your power pack when you go to the ammo box, or power pack that players can use to recharge their blasters. This way you only reload when you need to and not every time you fire a shot and thus run outa ammo too quickly ala BF2142/BF2
Long live the Empire!
