Topic: WIP: Strike on Dor

Edit:

I have taken down the photos and put this on hold until the Devs get the Death Star map out to you guys.  Too much "classified info" in my map photos, so sorry your gonna have to wait.:)

OK, so I finally got going a bit on a FS map (Strike on Dor).

Background:

from The Star Wars Wiki Wookieepedia:

Dor was the fourth planet in the Endor system.

Imperial forces were naturally drawn to the planetoid since its crust and mantle were incredibly rich in pure metals, alloys, and crystals, including phobium, doonium, zersium, neutronium, iron, gold, and crystallized lommite. Many astrophysicists argued for many years about how the small planetoid could have become so rich in these natural materials.

However, independent prospectors found it nearly impossible to penetrate the thick crust, and many small mining operations failed to turn a profit while trying to mine Dor. The Galactic Empire, however, used a massive concentration of firepower to crack Dor's crust open. Once spherical in shape, the planet was reduced to a ragged, unstable world that lacked any sort of structural integrity by the excavations of the Empire.

OK, so map story is that the Rebel Alliance is now interested in the fruits of the Empires labor and want to take over the now very productive mining activities on Dor.

Map has the look of a fairly plain planet with simple moss/fern growth (no trees, etc) but with Volcanic type activity where the Imps have bombarded the surface to crack the crust open.  The water is a lava look (would love to know if it's possible to make the water on the map kill on contact), and there are lots of black/red lava flow fields around the edges.   If you have ever been to the big Island of Hawaii, it's sorta that feel.  Map is not huge either (size is 513x513 for you mappers out there).

Map opens with Rebels taking the Lambda landing pad (Rebel un cap base for map).  Imperials have all other flags, but none are un cap for Imp.  5 - 7 flags (not sure yet, too early to know balance)

Speeders, Speeder Bikes, and maybe tanks and walkers (not sure yet on that).  Speeder Bikes are a blast in these canyons and in the city like Mine Processing Center.  BTW, ignore the Tie Fighter and X wing in the photos, they are strictly for getting around in the testing of the map.  Modded fighters would rock on this map, but the stock ones would be a joke cause of the lack of gravity effects.  You can just hang in the air and shoot without issue.

View from pad area

View from up the "crater" from pad (crater is where the crust is split open by Imperial firepower and mining can occure here now)

View looking into Mining Control Center just up from Lambda landing pad (this has the full interior bunker from Endor)

View from top of Mine Processing Center (above Mining Control Center)

View from Crater Rim looking across to Gas Processing Plant

Same as above

View from inside Crater Rim Gas Processing Plant Control Room

View of general landscape outside of main Crater area

Any ideas are welcome (although I am pretty happy with the concept, terrain and look so far).   Be gentel on me, as I have been out of mapping for a year or more, so I am re learning some things.

If any Devs want a copy of the level to play with (editor or packed level) PM me.

Re: WIP: Strike on Dor

Can someone please tell me what ship the Rebels would use to transport large troop #'s to a planet surface?

I'm a SW fan, but just not a real expert.

Thanks.

Re: WIP: Strike on Dor

Yup. Gallofees to bigger troop transports (90 passengers) and ATR-6 for smaller transport (40 passengers) http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gamma-cl … _transport

One question though... How long did they use LAAT/i? Did rebels use them at all or was it just with clonetroopers? That would be so natural replacement to bf2142 transports.

Re: WIP: Strike on Dor

Let us please avoid the flat fish looking ships tongue

But the large scale transports would be the gallofrees.  Smaller transports would include the yt1300 (the falcon) or yt2400 I believe.  We should have at least one of those for R2

Re: WIP: Strike on Dor

OK, cool.   I used a Gallofree for this map, but wanted to make sure before I got to far.   The one static of a Gallofree seems to have "walk through" issues on the underside.   I have yet to have time to get back to it and play with things.  There may have been a col that I missed.

I can't wait for R2 now, cause I want to play with more toys in my maps. LOL

Galactic Empire continued to field LAAT/I for the early years of their power. But they eventually ceased to excists and were turned into scrapmetal/ditched to Ord Mantell or any other giant junkyards.
