Pilotable Vehicles in BF2142 (as of more than 1 year post release):
Gunship (PAC and EU are different only visually)
Transport (PAC and EU are different only visually)
APC (PAC and EU are different only visually)
PAC Walker
EU Walker
PAC Tank
EU Tank
FAV (Buggy)
Not included for reasons stated below: Hachimoto Hover Car Thing, Goliath APC
DistinctPilotable Vehicles in First Strike (as of R1):
TIE Fighter
TIE Bomber
TIE Interceptor
A-Wing
B-Wing
X-Wing
Y-Wing
ATST
Speederbike
Landspeeder
Correllian Corvette
Nebulon-B Frigate
Carrack Cruiser
Lancer Frigate
Each of these vehicles are distinctly different from each other; they carry different weapons, are more/less manueverable, are stronger/weaker, etc.
As far as the "cheep, cheep booster" (they couldn't even call it an expansion) goes, it's just another example of DICE/EA selling additional content that was witheld from the original release for the sole purpose of making you pay $60 for the WHOLE game instead of $50. I don't believe in that sort of business practice which is why I refuse to buy NS. Sometimes (all the time) EA makes me sick. After I'm done with FS, I'm switching engines.

We were originally planning to implement a full customization system like vanilla has...unfortunately, the engine doesn't support full customization for mods, and DICE has yet to fix this, or even tell us if they're going to. In fact, we really haven't gotten any of that promised MOD SUPPORT that DICE tantalized us with, much less even an editor (still using the BF2 editor). I digress.
