Topic: On wrecks staying for I don't know how long

Made a new thread to not derail that of the Lemming's smile .

I like the idea, but would rather see the ships break up after being destroyed, and the parts remaining on the map floating around as obstacles.

I was going to post a thread on this myself, actually. Have every ship, even fighters, have wreck meshes, like the Bulk Freighter does, and have the pieces float around indefinitely like the wrecks in Project Reality (OK, fighters and bombers should disappear after a short while since they're so small and just drift away into the void anyhow). Granted, space is big and you'd have to have a good deal of ships explode for this to make a difference, but it'd still add to the atmosphere to be on your way to the enemy and fly by a Lancer and Frigate hulk and some fighter debris where there's just been a battle. Blowing up whole convoys in X-Wing Alliance and watch a whole field of generic space debris afterwards was fairly enjoyable.

I'd like to see other vehicles, too, have their wrecks stay for the rest of the round or until blown up, but there's probably a reason why this is not so.

Re: On wrecks staying for I don't know how long

As a side note, I wanted to make a cute little 'Wrecks stay forever' mini-mod like I did for vanilla BF2, so I copied the FS folder, went into the subfolders, found the AT-ST, and set the WreckTimeToStay to 9999. I then entered the game and blew up the AT-ST, expecting the head to blow and the legs to stay there forever. Instead the head stayed, and the whole thing tipped forward, head and legs, and damned near headbutted me when it landed face-first in the sand and stayed there, without the cockpit showing any sign of exploding. Sort of discouraging tongue .

Re: On wrecks staying for I don't know how long

Apparently 'AT-ST' refers mainly to the cockpit, while the legs are separate entities, perhaps in their own folder like 'AT-ST_Legs' or something.

Re: On wrecks staying for I don't know how long

The AT-ST has a 2-stage explosion thing going. As the AT-ST, it 'disappears' when the head blows up - then you've got the legs standing there for several seconds. You'd have to find the standalone leg-mesh, and change the wreck time for that to 9999.  Guess that means you can't have a non-exploded head anywhere...

EDIT: What Safe-Keeper said. smile

Today's spelling/grammar tip: There = a (sometimes conceptual) place. "There is my car." or "There is such a thing as magic."  // Their = posessive. "Their meat is full of worms." // They're = contraction of <they are>. "They're crazy!" // "They're trying to put their shoes up there."
