It'd also be cool to just roam around space, fire at passing fighters and battleships, land on the outside of ships, etc.

Not to mention being in a fighter and doing full-speed strafing runs on space troopers hovering by a cap ship's hull (repairing or placing explosive charges or cutting their way through an airlock to allow people to board or whatever).

We're not discussing jetpacks, we're discussing space suits implemented as vehicles with various functions. You could make them 'unleavable' if that makes you happy.
