Re: Fighting the probot

I know Droidekas are from Episodes 1-3 and not part of this game, but I just got done reading "Survivors Quest" by Timothy Zhan (great book btw).  And Luke and Mara had a show-down with a Droideka.  To make a long story short, the thing is virtually impossible to kill (fictionally speaking of course).  Just be thankful that you're not dealing with one of those!!  If Jedi have an extremely hard time against Droideka's it would be virtually impossible to go up against them for a common soldier.  I'll take a fight against an imperial probe droid anytime.  smile

The reason the Jedi had problems with the droideka was most likely that they were armed with only lightsabres big_smile .

Give me a HH-15, Packered Mortar Gun, DetPacks or antitank mines and we'll see.

Re: Fighting the probot

Aye, formidable as they are, if Jar Jar Binks can take one down I'm sure a skilled trooper packing enough firepower could do the job.

Re: Fighting the probot

What i believe is that the probe droid is very overpowered. On an endor map (well populated at that), I was in a squad with quite a few people. I was with one other person on a speeder bike moving towards the base, we shot at the probe droids with small arms and blasters, no effect. We got killed. Later, we got on our speeder bike, and shot at the droid with it. No effect. It picked us off. We hit it with EMP, grenades, pistols, rifles, nothing worked. I find it a little hard to believe it will take so much to kill a probe droid when if you look back to the movie, Han took one out with one shot from a blaster pistol and nuked it.

Curses, foiled again!

Re: Fighting the probot

Not to be picky... but the probe in the movie self-destructed. It had completed its mission, and had subsequently been detected - self-destruction was the only real option left.

That said... the fact that the droid blew itself up, rather than tackle a guy with a blaster and a Wookie, would indicate that they're not intended to be combat droids. My suggestion would be to make it better at scouting - give it a zoom function, and maybe boost its scan range (or give it a recharging, wide-range sensor ping) but weaken its gun and cripple its armour. It's a one-use item, yes, but it should be kept alive by pilot skill, not by wicked self-defense capabilities.  Make it something that the Rebels would be willing to over-extend in order to kill. Now that would be more like a Probe droid.

If this is a signature... why doesn't the bank accept it on cheques?

Actually Mara had a small blaster with her too, but not the heavy duty guns the troopers were carrying. She did attempt to hit the sensors with her blaster fire, but it's shielding was too quick and it would activate it's shield before it got into it's tripod mode.   As far as short circuiting droids, apparently the droideka in Survivor's Quest was very tough, and extremely fast, and smart because it was reprogrammed. Eventually Luke and Mara destroyed the Droideka with a third lightsaber they had with them, by making the Droideka roll over it unsuspectingly and the saber was within it's shielding.  Then Mara used the Force to activate it and hit it's internal mini-reactor.   But I digress, this is about the Imperial Probe Droid which is nothing like the Droidekas and is also not as formidable.

I had a show down with a probe droid on Endor map, it really takes a sustained amount of fire and a poor operator on the other end to kill it.  Get yourself behind a shield and use the heavy guns against it, it will eventually be destroyed if the operator stays in one spot.  But it is hard to see at times if the operator is good at hiding.  I really like it as is, though I wish it could move up and down a few feet above the ground and be a wee bit faster, like in Empire.
