Yes, sure, you're right, but if you've set terrain in graphic options to the lowest you get only low-details.

hell, what you guys do for mapmaking makes our way look old school [i play Conflict 2142]

almost all our maps are made in a little program called notepad....

=/

we have a ton of the Battlefield 2 maps converted... and we probbly have 10-20 other maps not based on BF2 that are also played...

i found out another thing:
the darker quarter of the map is completely hulled in shadow (??)
but that's not that bad...
about the low-det texture: aren't they located in common/terrain/color ?
(there are only 2: asphalt and another one) were are the other ones?
and why doesn't bf find that stupid texture?
When I press generate low-det map the editor tells me that an error has occured???

If you set graphics to lowest and have no low detail maps it should crash your game.

As for why BFEditor is throwing an error, I don't know.  You should click your layer, press set low detail texture and pick the only one that shows up (called lowdetail or something like that) and hit okay.  Then hit generate low detail, should do this for each layer.

if there's no low-detail tex it should crash, but there is one, but it cant been found so bf uses the default.dds instead. but why cant it been found?!! (wtf)

Maybe you are using a bf2 texture in 2142? But I thought you said yo uused a 2142 one... hmm.. try setting it to a different texture and repack your map?

Do you have a version that ever worked? You could revert back to that and try again.

No, it never worked and I tried about 20 textures which are ALL bf2142.
In the directory common/terrain/textures/color are only 2 colortextures. where are the other ones?
