Hmm... I didn't consider the problem of players going for, say, the Melee Pin when you really need them doing something else as part of the team. It probably goes on, but it's not a problem I've come across personally. Incidentally, I got mine in a very low numbers game (up to 3 vs 3) when we were just getting the server going, and running around slashing and bashing was a bloody good laugh for everybody involved.
The Pistol Pin is a bit different because First Strike pistols are awesome weapons compared to vanilla pistols. You are not really disadvantaging either yourself or your team by using one in preference to your primary weapon – particularly at medium to long range!
Someone going for the Revive Pin cannot be said to be working against the team; he's got to be there with the other team members, and if he's got anything about him, he'll also be throwing down bacta canisters to heal people. Even if he never uses his gun, a good medic is still doing a great job!
Someone going for the Resupply Pin is hardly hurting the team's chances by keeping them stocked up with ammo...
As Gwynzer says, all the other Pins come by simply using the various kits effectively. Don't forget that there's a minimum Team Points requirement for all of them.
Still, if trying to get all the awards associated with a game makes me a stats whore, then I'm guilty as charged and not at all ashamed of it – quite the contrary, in fact! I'm evidence (if not proof) that being a stats whore and being a good team player are not mutually exclusive traits.

Mmm... vanilla!
