Re: Radio.

BFV was kickass in its own right.
It was obviously the precursor to the BF2 engine.

What i do know is that development went from one group to another
during the run-up to BF2 in 2004, and a lot of intellectual property ( patents or trademarks ) got tied up and lost in the change.
Otherwise, more elements that made BFV so fun ( even today ) would have had direct translation as objects in the BF2 engine.
( jukebox , player appearances , map styles )
by the way, you can change what MP3 tracks play in your BFV jukebox ... you arent stuck.

Proves that good ideas get lost due to selfish claims and legal wranglings, and newer products arent always better just because they are newer.

Re: Radio.

BFV also had large moving boats, and it had that segment that we talked about so much a few months ago about keeping you in one place while you stood on a moving vehicle. I keep wondering what it might have been like if we did FS on the BFV engine... yikes

Re: Radio.

would be cool for sure, just not quite the level of model details i dont think.
My mapping experience was heavy in BFV, and we made some crazy fun stuff.

Re: Radio.

Yeah, It would be so nice if people could UPGRADE engines rather than make entirely new ones, like if they could just take the BFV engine, keep those really good bits like the radio, then start coding in additional model and texture detail, upgrading graphics and sound and such but keeping the really good stuff in there instead of just leaving out when you write something completely new.

2142 is basically a nerfed bf2 engine with new models, vehicles, gamemodes, and a few things here and there.

Re: Radio.

The BFV engine was so proto-typey and bug laced, that for you to crank out a good mod, you really "looked" like you were hot $hit. When in reality, it was your knowlege of what "not to do" that mattered almost more than your imagination , lol.
I still love that game tho.  I play for a few hours at a time about once a month.
By far the best helicopter physics of any multi player game ... except the Ka-50 'black shark' simulation.

BF2 helicopters are the epitome of the term 'nerfed'.
